Can anybody reccomend a decent QR steering wheel boss ? I had one years ago but was never happy with it to be honest, there was some movement/play in it when fitted & the MOT man didn't appreciate it.

Cheers
Phil.

The Snapoff i find very good. I think this is what you had originally and I remember you saying it had some slop in it, but I have not experienced this. Its well fitted, and never comes loose, it is sometimes difficult to remove as the locking pins have a tendancy to wedge themselves in. The mechanism might suffer wear, at which point it might end up loose, but when new, there is no slack whatsoever.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

The Snapoff jobbies are bolt on in the same manor as the steering wheel, they just fit between the boss and the wheel.

They do tend to stack up a bit and I was not happy with the way it looked so I machined down an old Mountney classic boss, made an adapter, and bolted it all together with the snapoff boss so that its total hight was narly the same as a standard fixed boss. I then used a deep dish steering wheel to bring the wheel closer to me.

Hey Phil. I use a "Raid" one on my mini. There is no welding or permanent modifications needed and it feels very sturdy. Mine was orriginally off a 6r4 so i got it cheaply, so shop around and you might get a good price on a S/H boss.

Thanks for the replies chaps. Iirc mine was the "Raid" one I think ...
The Sparco one looks ok & not a bad price. There's a direct copy of it here not sure if I'd trust it though ? Anybody used one ?

It doesn't look bad from the pics, but for the sake of £20 I wouldn't risk it.

The only one I could fine for my motolita wheel was a life line but it was a bit too expensive for me...

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

I've got a larnaca one from demon tweeks there the yellow ones. I got the weld on one but had the column reemed out and ended up pegging it. It looked like a right fucking game to weld it.

It's a really good boss and there's no play at all but it's something's hard to get the splines to line up.

When I was down at Northampton Motorsport they showed be a really good one that clipped on to start of with then you turned the wheel till it engaged. Can't remember what they were called though.

A mate of mine had a real good one on a mk4 golf, no play whatsoever and came on and off that easy he could take it off and put it back on while driving. (safely of course) but nit sure what it was.

I've got one similar to the eBay £20 jobbie.

Mine was more like £60 though. Pron ably a different manufacturer?

It's pretty good. Easy to release and after 4 years it only has the slightest of play which isn't noticable in normal use.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Warwick.

Im of course going to recomend lifeline... seeing as i work there and assemble them, nice bits of kit, you can get ones which you weld to your colum or one that mounts to a regular boss

Yep they do look good. Is the motolita version really 220 or is that the deamon tweeks special price?

I dont know really, like i say, i just put them together and we dont often have requests for classic style releases, probably one of the reason their expensive.
