It's been a while, but I recall that you could run less oil because you don't have as much flinging about between the tranny and crank, and helps prevent frothing of the oil.

I'll be interested to see what other responses you get! I put one in my motor several years ago, but don't recall the exact motivation for the installation (as it's been about 9 years since the decision was made!)...

well my thoughts were theres going to be less oil drag.
and also my gearbox is worth 2+ grand so if anything were to go wrong top end theres a less chance its going to take the box with it or vice versa

oil drag on the crank and rod's is the main reason.

The idea of the windage tray is to stop oil flinging off the gearset onto the crank and slowing it down.
After fitting one in my gearbox I found that the engine responded better from lower in the rev range and came on cam quicker as it could get to the cams power range quicker.
You dont want to run less oil as a lesser amount will run hotter

I seriously doubt it!

Personally I will always have one. Some people notice the difference and some dont - it is small. Even if it did nothing though it wont hurt to have it in there

I seriously doubt it!

Make sure before you bolt the engine and box together that it clears the gears and rotating crank n rods

I seriously doubt it!

I use 4 M5 screws drilled and tapped into the casing. It should have marker pen dots where I suggest the screws should be

I seriously doubt it!

Why would you need to use cooling jets with a wind age tray?

To be honest I was after one of Paul's design but since my cams are at the top not in the block as such I can't see much benifit. I also like the Idea of more oil getting to the crank.

No you don't need piston crown cooling jets if you use a windage tray.

Do remember there is still oil being slung everywhere as it bleeds from the big ends and main bearings without the gearbox. Inline A series engine work fine without the need for a gearbox to lubricate the cam or cool the pistons

yep as above,

I like the idea of keeping gearbox oil away from the bores and cam.

Down the holes from the oil galleries onto the bearings and down the push rod holes from the rocker cover.
