picked up a nice trigger wheel from minispeed at L2B, it bolts onto the end of the crank pulley, i'll take a pic so u can see tomorrow.

Has anyone seen these? I cant see how you lock the wheel as it spins freely on its hub (which is what bolts to the crank pulley bolt.) damn its hard to describe. :(

Just emailed minispeed, will call later tomorow if no answer.

i think what you have is the omex trigger wheel, secure by drilling and adding a locating pin in the pulley

trigger for what? never heard of it.

well, before i get flamed for paying what i did.. i needed one quick with no work required to make one etc etc as i just dont have the time. I also got included with it an nice billet crank sensor adaptor that bolts onto the timing cover, and is fully adjustable. £100

But for a bolt on thing that saves a lot of work not so bad....

Not easy to put on an A-series pully mind!

Minispeed one is ok - not the way i'd do it personally, but as a 'quick fit' solution, it's pretty good. I guess you need to loctite the bolt into place mind?

y i'd loctite the bolt in, i was playing with the wheel this eve and found out that the outer ring, the one thats got the cut out in it is actually on a thread, just bloody stiff, so using a C spanner u can tighten it and clamp the wheel in position - sorted.

i asume thats so you can make it lign up with TDC ? as every setup would be different. TBO its worth the money paid, think how long it'd take to fabricate somethign as "trick"

y its for adjustment, with the megasquirt u need to have the missing tooth 90 degrees before the crank sensor at tdc.

With the Emerald ECU, you can have the missing tooth anyway, and just set a reference point in the software, can you not do this with the Megasquirt software

from what i have read, its 90 degs, could be wrong. i'll read it again lol

From what i hear AlexF is doing a MegaJolt mapped ignition setup also.

is modifying the original damper really work, after all its rubber damped y? so the toothed section could move separate from the other? or at least you'd get some spark jump?

I'm currently running this setup with a Lumenition ECU and on the rollers haven’t noticed any spark scatter plus under acceleration it would retard the timing a nats ass if anything.
When you figure each tooth is equal to 10 degrees it really does move very little and in my opinion not enough to worry about on my engine.

I saw an old CCC article where Dave Walker milled into the damper exactly like the picture above (might even have been on an a-series?). I can't see any reason you shouldn't do it that way - if the rubber moves enough for it to be a problem - you've already got a bigger problem that needs addressing before a little spark scatter !!! laugh:

However you do it, it'll work so long as it stays in the same place, even when the pulley is removed (unlike my first weber Alpha attempt i don't mind admitting)!!!
Oh how they laughed at Aldons when we figured that one out!!!



Another bonus to milling the damper - think of all that weight saved!!!!

I have fitted ford siera timing wheels to 3 mini pullies now and all have worked fine. I think the amount the damper moves is insignificant.

As for lining the wheel up. The megasquirt does all for some correction, but if you are running the EDIS system then it must be 90 degrees before TDC. This is a pretty simple task to do so not really an issue.

that just saved me because i was going to have the missing tooth at tdc, and the sensor 90deg before that

(or does that work out the same?????????)
