Any thoughs?

Car is fine ragged about a field, but been on teh road for the first time today - mass overheating!

Also a lot of "clicking" under load - Not sure if that could be det?

I have an aux electric fan plus the standard side mount rad, no thermostat

New plugs, new dizzy, new rotor arm, new rad cap, fresh coolant.

Any ideas?? :(

IVA resit on monday :(

clicking? sounds like a big bunch of keys being jingled on the bulkhead?
back the timing off a little,
as for overheating it could be this or another 100 odd things, running no thermostat is worse thing you can do imo

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

No thermostat without a blanking sleeve would be!

Clicking is like ultra tappet click, but only under load.

Ach I tried taking out the thermostat yesterday because I thought that it might be dead - Even though thats new too!

Maybe i'll try the timing.

I think the carb is all adjusted wrong as well - Its only an HS4 - not exactly much to adjust!

Thanks chaps :)

Northamptonshire.

Id try timing and carb set up, if its running to lean it will over heat loads

also flush the block remove the themo housing and keep filling with a hose till it comes out of the bottom hose this should clean any gunk and shit out

and do same with he sad also make sure your Fan's are spinning the right way swell as this can have an affect too

to test the thermostat, drop it in a mug of boiling water and see if it opens.

Then make yourself a questionable cup of tea *wink*

This clicking sounds to me like det. Back the timing off pronto before you fuck your pistons.

in addition to toms comments, timing could be causing the overheating

OK then det = mega high burn = mega hotness = boil.

OK better go and get tinkering!

Thank you for the replies

Seems to have helped a bit - got it properly timed at a local garage, but had a mega boil over on teh way home :(

He thought that the exhaust I put on it was all wrong for it and I should change it to something else as the clicking wasn't timing related....

Some how scraped and IVA pass though!!!!! *happy*

no its engin-y for sure :(

Going to pull off the head, check the gasket, change the water pump and put on a different FM-rad I think :)

The garage I took it too suggested that the carb needle I should change too so I guess it could still be leaning out from that....

I had similar symptoms, especially the 'clicking'. Was the head gasket in the end?!

This is FORD country, on a quiet day you can hear Vauxhalls rusting.

OK - Thank you for the reply. Suppose I can get rid of some more blue if I pull out the engine!

And fix the gearbox flange leaks too!

Actually.... Beginning to wonder now....

I'm sure the block had no thermo in it when I bought it and the guy I bought it from had history of doing the head gasket...... Hmmmm
