Has anyone ever attempted to do an 850 turbo? or would there be no point? |

No point IMHO If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

Probably no point, but I wonder how many said that about 998s until the likes of Wil, Ben and Paul got on and made good numbers... On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:

998 is probably cheaper. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

The reason for us to boost the 998 is for class rules. Paul was to make an eco car (although like many he liked the boost a little too much)

Problem is with the 850 engine is Cam has no bearings (early blocks), Pistons are only flat top not dished so compression issues, heads are very restrictive, cranks are a bit iffy IMO Personal cost, setting it all up, cost and power gain just not worth doing. 998 Or 1098 would be best option as more than enough parts kicking about for them :) |

as soon as you tell insurance you gone turbo the cc size really dosent effect it that much. they more like the bhp figure your engine produces now which i find hard as with turbo depends how much boost etc. you could tell them whatever My small bore turbo project http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=473901 |

As everyone said I don't see a problem turboing a 850 but you must keep in mind a few things :

Well, if you can convert a HIF44 to work with boost, why not a HIF38? That and a bit of fiddling with the restrictor on the plenum and it should scale down okay? http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.p...tid=469104&fr=0 |

why bring the compression down? leave it the same and boost will come on faster, that might even solve the right size turbo problem as well. You wouldn't be able to run huge boost numbers but you make up some of that power with compression -1974 Mini 1000 - BRG Turbo Build Soon to come

I was just thinking about the fuel problem, but I'm sure some of the head wizards on here could size up some chambers to get 9ish? I don't know what it is as standard though... And I'm assuming a 12G295 fits on an 850?

If you can find some with the correct diameter, pin height and pin diameter then you can put them in.

Would the pistons be suitable for a turbo? |

. but no reason why not you could just do it for the hell of it with building a 998 in the future in mind. blow it and transfer the turbo parts.
