Are the beans a sign that you're going to attempt to spool them up with flatulence?

If so they don't call you dangerous for nothing, do they!

I have seen a turbo that big glowing red hot when the diesel engine it was on ran a wee bit lean. It was quite scary at the time. They took it off and left it onthe deck for a while.

Difficult to tell how big it is unfortunately.

that looks like a marine diesel engine turbo if im not mistaken!!!!!!!!!.

are fire engine at work run a detroit 2 stoke turbo diesel v8 devolping about 600bhp but the also run a super charger aswell.

appernetly they can get over a 1000bhp out of these small units for lorry racing. but dicressing slighly these have a garrtet t8 turbo chargers i thing but not quiet as big as yours ben.

but on my last boat which had paxman v8 in the blower was the size of a dutbin lid and yes it was lagged and would glow if we put the revs upto 1550rpm running at a temp of 550 degc (or it mayu have been F cant remeber).

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

I only have a crappy picture of the engines my turbo came off. It shows 2 banks of 2 (of the 7) V16 engines.

The main propulsion engine, a streight 6 2 stroke diesel had the biggest turbos. They were bigger than me and over 2 decks. No pictures though. I think that they were that big because they were made in the 50's and they didn't know any better back then.

The 7 v16s are each a 2.5MW generator used for the general load of the vessel and in this case 8 electric thrusters and a drill floor.

ben i dont no if you were in the merchant navy like me but when i was at college we watch a video of a ulcc (fuck off great big tanker). 500,000 ton dead weight and had a single diesel engine which had a 40 ft stroke ( 5 decks high) each cylinder had was indepent from the main crank so you could disengage each cylinder for servicing if wanted.

pitty i aint got any pics it was amazing to see.

they actualy laid the engine in on the keel before the put the skin and double bottom sections on.

but ive seen those crank pics before of miniwillie and is an incredible site to see.

its amazing the size of those things that are need to kick out 2.5mw.

no wonder we sell a fair number of gas turbines to platforms now.

Ive got to do my off shore training in a few weeks for when i have to go there to sort them out! (when i get enough experience behind me! still get to shadow for a fair few months yet which is always a laugh!)

my training is at hull. I'm a support engineer for siemens gas turbines, only been in this job 2months, before i was working in combustion design with Dan.
Very interesting though plus you get to travel and its all paid for!
Basically involves some office and some out work trying to fix any problems as they come up so very varied.

oh interesting stuff, them gas turbines are well sorted engines.

i used to like the lister blackstones or even the good old cooking diesels like the gardeners as you didnt need ear defenders with them.

my last boat had twin v8 paxmans which were mainly used for royal navy generaters but the raf decided it would be good in the lauches, but the smoked like a barsted at idle.

but the did have huge turbo's as this is what the thread was originaly !!!!!!!!.
