Guys

we're looking to change a few of the work phones at the moment; currently 2 users have HTC desire's and the other a Blackberry Torch. The 2 on HTC's don't really need buisiness type handsets, the blackberry user does. We are on Vodafone and the info coming from them is sketchy to say the least.

We are getting mixed views on either keeping to HTC's or replacing with Samsung handsets.

We originally were going to replace the blackberry with an I phone, however we got ipads earlier in the year and to be honest they have been a pain to use with the PC's without using clouds and all that crap. The though and recommendations so far seem to be heading towards an android platform and more than a few people have suggested the Samsung handsets, in particular the Galaxy S3. Ideally we want a phone that can handle and allow browsing of attachements - something the torch isn't too hot on.

I don't know enough about these things now and IT is the bain of my life. Anyone got any recommendations for something nice and simple to use and sync with the PC?

cheers

Rob

If you aren't an apple fan then the S3 is a great choice.

I have a Samsung Note, big like a small tablet really great phone absolutely brilliant for internet and navigation on the go with its huge screen, couple of guys at work have had Iphone 4's for ages and had a go with it and thought it was much better, just need to get used to size, we rarely turn a laptop on at home now, my wife has a note now as well. If the size is too big then the S2 or S3.....

cheers guys - seems to be a big thumbs up for the samsungs then.

Skolawn, we did look at the Note and liked the idea of it but it was a bit big for some of the work we would use it for

My HTC wildfire is shit and has been from day 1.

The only manufacturer I've had consistently decent phones from is nokia.

I also had to ring vodafone earlier because my bill has gone up. Cheeky bastards amended my contract to a different more expensive one without consent. I said I didn't use the full allowance for the existing one so I want the extra money back. Fucking jokers are getting some serious abuse when the contract is getting renewed.

I think Nokia gave up making decent phones about 6 or 7 years ago.

yep, they did,

Nokia stuck by the Sybian system for far too long, also all their production was based around making phones of similar design ( I know an ex inside man). I think now they are teaming up with windows we will see some good stuff again but its a little way off still.

I reckon the 920 will be make or break for Nokia.

Just got the iphone 5, and im tbh its no different than my iphone 4 really, i bit quicker maybe and siri but really the same thing. Its not so much that the 5 is bad but that the 4 is just as good if you get that... Ive always used apple tho just because itunes is easy and works well, especially with i cloud backing you up evry day.

I have the s3. its brilliant. however it is a bit large. it makes the iphone look small. can be a bit tricky to use with 1 hand at times. The s2 is better sized IMO. Just something to think about...

Rural Suffolk

A bit of old thread digging (well only 4 days) but I got my Samsung Galaxy 3 on Monday.

Not because of this thread but after many hours of reseach on the internet and a desire to screw Apple for their ridiculous patent claims against Samsung.

NOT impressed....

An impressive bit of hardware superficially but fairly useless as it rarely connects to it's (or any other) network...

Because I'm in (very) rural Suffolk I chose a contract with the only operator ("3") who claimed they had 3G coverage where I live - they said it might only be outdoors at my specific address but it's nowhere, not even inside/outside my local pub, unless I drive 4 miles to the top of a hill about another 4 miles away.

Even in Norwich and Ipswich (I've been to both in the last couple of days) reception is random.

It can't be down to the network operators in all my cases. "3" claim 98% coverage of the UK for 3G. The phone itself must have a very weak reception capability.

My 8 year old unbranded pay as you go connects to Orange (now EE) anywhere in Suffolk/Norfolk.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???
