So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Surcharge = regrind = dodgy.

Not had any joy over the years with regrinds, it's a billet blank all the way for me.

Funny, I have used lots of regrinds over the years, never an issue. What is important with any new cam is to make sure you knock in the followers. 30 min at 2500rpm.

I've never had any bad luck with regrinds, but the last "new" one I purchased was getting close to 10 years ago - I bet that now, there are nothing like as many "suitable" core units as there were back then - but so long as their QA is up to spec, there shouldn't be any issue.
I'd have to ask, do Minisport grind cams? I'd be surprised if they do - this is a specialised job and a lot easier to farm out to one of the few specialists in the UK, then stick them in your own box.

With a billett costing little more than a regrind these days, I would always use billett.

Not that there is anything wrong with regrind, but you get an optimum profile rather than something compromised to fit.

I recently rang up Kent, told them what profiles and timing/scatter I wanted, paid em about £200 and a few days later the cam arrived.

Minisport have been doing re-grinds from the year dot, whether they do them in house or not.

What profile are you after?

Now this is a real bargain:

Excellent turbo cam due to the wide LSA.

I know. Even Kent get the info wrong.

I've used one, clocked one and simulated one, so no need to worry about a typo.

Still a regrind *oh well*

Saying that every PH2 I have used is a regrind and I haven't had any issues.

Wow - I just looked at how much cams cost now. I'm sure I remeber them being 45 quid or something like that. Like I said - it was many years ago that I last purchased one!

I just found this quote from Minispares:

"As of July 2007 Kent cams have no supply of old camshafts for reprofiling and once these stocks are sold we will only supply camshafts from new blanks"

Hmmm,

when they say billet... do they really mean billet... is it a billet of the correct material?

ie mini cams should be the correct material to run with the cast tappets EN34 iirc

I think it's only us that use the term billet. They seem to use the term "blank".

Point is still valid. I would trust Kent Cams. They have been in the business a long time and have a reputation to uphold.

Tbh wil anything that would run fine on a turbo, i do like the lumpy sounding cams which im assuming is the 286's but 266/276 would be better apparently. Im still learning and being a sheep ( following suit not being welsh )

Turbo cams are not lumpy.

Lumpy idle means poor emmissions means potential MOT failure.

Be realistic about your power requirements and go from there. Also steer away from cams with a low LCA.

Mike runs a Morspeed Phase 3 I think? You aren't likely to get another.

yep Paul, kent or piper must be a safe bet.

I think the reason the tangerine sounds lumpy is its got no silencers.
