Guys,

I know there a few electrical wizards on this forum and am hoping someone can help me out.

I came to do a spot if welding with my Clarke 100e and it appears the wire feed speed is broken, I've stripped the welderdown and removed the circuit board and it looks pretty simple. The speed controller is really notchy and has something rattling about in it.

My question is, we're can u get a new one to solder on, I've been googling for ages and cannot find what I'm after.

Any help is much appreciated.

Cheers

Mossy

If it's a pot on the circuit board, desolder it and take it into maplin or similar and get a spotty geek to identify it and sell you one.

I've have contacted weld equip, they also only sell the circuit board, just seems a bit overkill when I know it's the speed controller. I may have to just buy the board and be done with it. I expect to put some stuff up for sale soon to pay for it. Watch this space...

SUCCESS

i have located the part 'I THINK'

http://www.panda-bg.com/product.php?lang=en&code=106065

im hoping anyone electronically minded can help.

On the controller it says 1k O/N. I read this as a 1k resistor, although the datasheet online which also looks identical says 50k.

i was thinking of trying to buy both but the link above wont let me have an account, wont let me create one! and secondly, whats the worst that will happen if i fit a wrong resitance one??

welder go bang?

Spares for these machines will not go to the extent of individual components on circuit boards, it will always be the complete circuit board. If you want to replace the individual parts, you'll have to do that yourself.

The 'speed controller' as you call it, is infact a potentiometer, and as others have said, you can get them from Maplin. Walk in, go to the counter with your original part and say to the geek, "I want a replacement one of these".

I was taming down the electrical terminology so everyone would understand what i require! I also know maplins do not have a 20amp 'rotary potentiometer' I exhausted all the standard avenues prior to posting on here.
I plan to do the work myself and swap the pot but was asking / hoping someone on here has more experience in finding a suitable replacement. I think I'll have to try and buy the one from never never land in the above link and hope for the best. Worse case scenario is a new board.

20 amp potentiometer? That is ~400 watts at 20 volts or 4800 watts at 240v depending on the wire feed motor voltage

Does the wire feed motor really draw 20 amps?
