not the turbo is it? check the intercooler pipes for oil.

also check the plugs, it might just be getting into the turbine.

also whats the oil pressure? can you trust the gauge?

you will probably regret selling it. We have all been there and it is very demotivating. Just get stuck in and solve the problem then start enjoying the car properly. Half the fun is learning and fixing.

Is the turbo drain clear?

If its smoking on over run, it could be the valve guides?

Also, even on a new head the guide seals can pop off from boost pressure,

woth pulling the rocker cover and giving the seals a poke with a small screw driver to see if they are still seated, also the std rubber ones can cook, you want the brown viton MPI ones.

Hi Charlie.
Your car looks the dogs mate, I would try running the oil a little lower on the dipstick to see if it improves things at all first,
Will it smoke everytime you slow down or only from high engine speed?
Check stem seals as suggested above also

Just had similar issues with my engine. too the whole thing apart, new rings, stem seals etc. and it still smoked.

Last week I bought a turbo re-build kit, in 3 hours I removed the turbo, took it to bits, rebuilt it and stuck it back on. Now no smoke.

Smoked on overrun and at idle, was a little intermittent.

Lovely car by the way (except the odd front wing)

Charlie,

From what Wil is suggesting it could be that you are forcing to much oil onto the turbo bearing although without looking at the sealing arrangement I have no idea, it would be something I would be checking as an engineer as we would presume to much oil would be as bad as not enough,
Just my thoughts mate hope u get it sorted tho

Right well at idle you don't really get much smoke but when I pull away just normal not booting it I get a little bit but if I boot it slow down then carry on it pumps out a fair bit lol( is it possible to have the turbo seals just go on the exhaust side ? )

Charlie,
Have you fitted a new/high capacity oil pump?

If so I would adjust my oil pressure to see if made a difference. If it did then I would have the turbo rebuilt.
Also you need to chat with someone that knows the turbo your running inside out to be certain

Turbo seals can go on just the zorst side. Wintersurfers car has been like this since we built it. Tight git.

You will regret selling it.

Sounds like turbo seals.
Dont get rid. You've done the hardest part and got it back on the road. These are just teething problems. Typical mini IMO turbo'd or not.
