Hi guys,

I will be picking up a metro turbo engine very soon.

What things should i strip down and maybe replace before i put it in my mini?

From what i have read i should be able to avoid cutting the bulkhead by using mirage manifolds?

Cheers
Nick

I'm not really a fan of Metros, but that MK 1 turbo is a very very rare car. It looks to be quite rotten, but somebody may well want to take it on as a restoration.

I would say sell it as a whole car, buy a standard 1275 and build it up as a fancy dan turbo motor. Chances are you would have to do that tot the metro engine anyway...

Doesn't look like a real turbo metro to me. Looks like a MK1 with a turbo lump stuck in it.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

From what the owner of the metro told me, its a turbo engine dropped in a P reg metro.

P reg!? That would make it a 75? No metro's that old I'm afraid. Not even a prototype!

To be perfectly honest you may as well just rebuild a standard 1275 as you can bet your bottom dollar that engine will be cream crackered! Unless you get it for a bag of nowt it's probably not worth it.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

In that case, rip the fucker apart and sweep up the body shell. *wink*

That's a MK 1 so about 82 - 85. There where a few earlier prototype ones on suffix plates, but most would be on prefix type plates.

If it's worth repairing then possibly, but if it's been sat in a field for a few years it's highly likely it's got no floors left...

Any more pic's? I reckon that has nothing much left from the sills down. Suspension looks to be a tad deflated too...

Looks in better nick that the mini behind it though.

If you can get the engine for sod all then get it and scrap the car.

Yeah the mini next to the metro is nothing more than a roof, 1 door, bulkhead, rear window and a rear subby and seats.

Few more photos

Must be an early engine with inertia starter and hydraulic clutch.

The shell looks past it. I would pull the engine and strip it down, see what condition it's in.

I expect the carb will need a full rebuild.

Things like the air box are rare and will fetch a fair price on ebay.

I believe James from MOC is after an airbox and an oil cooler from a MK1 to finish his resto.

Depends on price, cost of donor part to build an engine up soon mounts up these days, block, carb, manifolds etc . This will probably need a full overhaul

If anybody needs parts of the car please let me know then before its made into a cube (if its very badly rotten)

We did try turning the engine over but i think the starter was stuck. Turned nice and easy by hand though.

Yes that is a socket driver holding the clutch arm in haha

The boot lid glass might be of interest to someone as it is a poverty spec with no heated rear screen.
