Have a friend with a 54 plate A3 2.0 tdi sport and it keeps cutting out, drives fine then engine dies and battery light come on. It then turns over but takes a few tries to get it started again. Intermittent, can be while driving or stopped at junction etc

Driven the car myself now. Turbo is whistling more than usual, dials take a few seconds to register.

The 1.9's can suffer from mafs and knackered egr valves if it is the egr then you might be pulling alot of soot from the hoses as well

I know my tdi passat suffers from a known problem with the ccm (comfort control module) where water gets into the footwell and shorts the electrics. I've seen videos the same on YouTube with audis (not sure it was a3 though). My doors would lock, then the air bag warning lights came on, it was one thing after another, all because the drain under the battery is blocked! Any other electrical problems?

Do these Auidis have the same coolant temp sensor to VW's? The Missus' car temp gauge was playing up, intermitant, fueling was rich when it happened, no warning lights or codes. changed the sensor and the problem went away.

the sensor is two in one, one feeds the gauge, the other the ECU. Both don't necessarilly fault at the same time, some the gauge or the ECU only, some both at the same time. Not sure why they do it like that. On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

Sorry to say it but my money is on knackered injectors, sadly very common on the VAG 2.0 TDI engine to the point that I wouldn't touch one, a shame as the old 1.9's are bombproof.

I've had the coolant sensor go on both my a4s. The old 1.8 petrol would cut out a lot and the 1.9 tdi would just get a dash warning light. On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:
i tried putting soap on it , and heating it to brown , then slathered my new lube on it
