miss text me earlier saying a light had come on her dash (audi a3 08) i said ok darl when you get home il put it on vagcom and see whats going on, but she thought she would go to a garage on the way home to be told that the starter motor was nakered causing a power drain on electrical system, so £2oo later and a new starter fitted but that was not all she was also told that the abs pump was nakered and the steering rack and they need replacing asap so she booked it in tomoz without saying anything to me, seems a bit odd that all the really expensive parts all fail at once, they also deleted all error codes so i could not check on vagcom to see what was at fault*angry*

Done now needs redoing lol

with no new trouble codes i would highly doubt the diagnosis.

they may have set a code, but that may go hand in hand with the power drain as this systems monitor the voltage and set a code if its to low

Cancel the booking with the garage and run it a bit longer and see if you get any more codes.

I just found out today my ABS pump has gone on my BMW *frown* but it's was my mates kit we used to find the fault so I trust him, I have a error code of 5e20?

So next thing is to find the pump and he will fit it and get it programmed as it needs done by all accounts.

I have started posting on Instagram also my name on there is turbomk1golf

Nothing is impossible it just costs more and takes longer.

5e20 means pressure sensor 1 broken/out of range.
can be repaired, but most will replace the whole unit

Why does an abs pump need programming?

Seems like manufacturers are busy trying to screw you in any way possible!

at best because everything now is connected via CAN.
in this case it could be resetting some sensors related to DSC

Garages like to take advantage of people who aren't sure what's what and are willing to hand over there hard earned because ' they're a garage so what they say must be true ' Unfortunately it will never stop, you're best off taking it to somebody you know well if you have that opportunity. Hope you get it sorted at a reasonable cost!

I have a very good friend in the car repair business who was visiting a workshop who had a fault on a Lexus - fly by wire throttle not working. Code said new throttle body and sensor required -£600 +.

My friend fixed it for 50p - it was a blown fuse !

You think you've got it bad!?!

The missus bought a 61 plate Audi A1 from an Audi dealer. 12 month manufacturer warranty left. Three weeks of owning it and we start to notice that its intermittently not running right. Book it in with the garage for repair. Dropped it off on an evening for a cold start in the moring.

Its been in the garage for over two weeks. They have replaced the injectors, and a few other parts over the two weeks and today I get a call saying they are still not happy with the way its running and want to replace something else, now it will be next week before we likely get it back!

The car will have been in the garage half the time we have owned the car.

Lots of other little things that pissed us off with the way the dealer that sold us the car didn't get back to my calls asking where the service log book was, after looking through the mountain of documentation they give you, and fiunding it wasn't there. I ended up driving the 30 miles to Crewe to confront them in person, and oh, wouldn't you believe it, they sorted it there and then!

That and the feeling I am being fobbed off with every excuse as to why the parts ordered for the car have not turned up, three times, three different parts!

We bought an Audi thinking we would be getting a decent service, more so after the year I've had with Vauxhall. OK, I admit that the garage dealing with the car now are taking responsability and the Technician is at least concientious in making sure its right, but three weeks constantly waiting for parts! FFS!!! I'll be putting in a complaint for both garages!

Slight benefit of all this is that the Missus is now driving round in a 63 plate Audi Q3 S-Line. Not the same as your own car and its not the car she would have chosen, even after driving one.

I had an exhaust fitted today. I would usually do it myself, but couldn't be arsed as it was cold n wet. Anyway... All fitted payed for, sounded ok, until any slight throttle was applied, at which point it sounded like a small tank with a whistle sound to go with it.

I took it back to be told "they sometimes sound a bit loud until they get sooted up. It can take a couple of weeks. See how it goes" lol!

In the 13's at last!.. Just

done quite a few of these in 1 and newer 3-series. plenty of places refurb them online, have a google. they are not liek the older pumps where the pressure sensor itself is replaceable. you only need the valve body, you can keep your ecu if you go the second hand route to save on coding. the refurb units are either valve body only (can also be got from BMW) or exchange for your old one , again saving the coding issues.

Garages will pray on people who don't know what they are doing, Guy came in today telling me he'd been quoted £200 to fix an oil leak on his MG ZR so I walked out opened the bonnet alone behold rocker cover gasket leaking oil £5 + vat in parts and he fitted him self -_- where £200 come from I don't know. I use to work in a garage and know what its like, Sickens me since I don't have the heart to rip people off.

To add, the coding is not always for security reasons, abs units are "coded" to teh brakes and engine on the car, as well as manual or auto, whether traction controll is installed and various other things that vary from car to car as they roll of the production line. Its not a daft secret dealer rip off machine, its just common sence from a large volume manufacturers standpoint.

sadly this thread just highlights my biggest dissapointment about this trade. the cowboys, who sadly are very great in number giving the rest of us a bad name.

Last time I had my car in a main dealer was for the timing belt at about 80k. They didn't put something back right and it wouldn't run, so they needed it over night. Fair enough, I had a nearly new A4 as courtesy car. However they had it booked out the next day so I had to make sure I gave them their car back on time. They didn't even clean my car. Safe to say it's not seen a main dealer since...

I used the main dealer twice and the only thing I'd go back to them for now is to get number plates as it seemed to be cheaper than using the local factors!

The first to get accident damage repaired; regret no1.

Second time for a service that they would have ended up with £3.5k out of my pocket if I'd done everything they said needed doing to the car - even wanted £55 to replace a rear brake bulb! The irony is the one thing I was bothered about (rumbling wheel bearing relating to the first point) was never diagnosed even after me asking. That was the first comment I got from the specialist when he picked the car up - "that's a hell of a bearing noise coming off your car"

I'd say around £3k of that claimed required work remained outstanding on the car after I added a further 120k to the clock and I can assure you the car was well maintained by a local specialist

leeds/wakefield.

well i am going to have my say, i have never been ripped by a garage because i never use them, lol.

however, my megane tow barge met an untimely demise last wednesday so i have bought an 07 mondeo tdi estate, with toewbar[ the deal clincher] lol.

the guy who sold it to me was honest and up front as it was a private sale, pointed out a couple of things that would need adress ing in the coming months, years if it lasts that long,

he told me he had a recent fuel pump failure so had to have a second hand tank fitted along with s/h fuel pump also 4 recon injectors, and a bill for £1300 OUCH, and he just put 4 new avons on in september for the test ,
