Right i need some new boots for the car, at the moment i got the yoko a539's on it. Not a bad tyre for quickish road use. But and consitering an upgrade to the a048r's. Wondering how people are getting on with the 48's on the road, and wether theyre really worth it if your not doing trackdays?

a great tyre with loads of grip, as long as you dont expect more then 5k out of a set, and plan to use it in really crappy/icy weather

I wouldn't run a A048r as a road tyre. It doesn't really perform properly until really warm, which you'll never experience on the road. If used as a track day car, they're fantastic, but I'd have a second set of wheels for that.

I have not tryed a 048 on the road, but are using them on my racecar. I think you will find them unsuitable on the road as the have very little grip in the rain or cold weather.
As Vegard is saying they need temperature to perform at it best, and as all racetyres they have a limited heatcycles in them before they starting to get hard

my missus has a set of medium compound 048r's on 10x6's which saw every weather possible and they where great, better than budgets in the snow too (and i expected in bad weather!)

i cant fault the A008s for the road, excellent grip even in a cheeky 3 wheeler and very predictable on 10s

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

Hmm mixed views... Im gettin an lsd box but was wondering wether these might help woth wheelspin as it spins in in 3rd at the moment. Its dosnt go out in the rain to br honest. I can get them for about 80quid a tyre fitted... Going to have to make a decision. Being bad in the cold dosnt sound very good for this time of year tho.

The A048 is the standard fit tyre for the Lotus Elise Sport.

I've used them on the road and find them pretty good, maybe a little slippy in the wet but no where near as bad as the A008's I had.

They are available in medium or soft compound. As others have said though, don't expect many miles out of them, I got around 3k out of the fronts but most of that was hard driving on the road.

Because of the grip issues in the wet, you either don't use the car in the wet or you drive it like a normal car. just because they are 'slippery' in the wet doesn't mean they are less grippy than the harder road tyres, cos the harder road tyres. They are not however 'rain' tyres that's for sure!

I used them daily for 2 years before I bought another car. They were night and day over the falkans that were there before.

Even in heavy rain they were better. I think on standing water your screwed in a mini anyway.

What size are you considering?

I bet under 5% of cars are on 3.5s!
If it were fashion over function I'd have the a048r because they look ace on minis!

A048 is a wet track tyre..., I used them in all condition with my old mini before I sold it, it didn't see the snow but found them better in ths wet than the 539's.

Each to their own I think, also how about ths toyo road sport tyres 185/55r13 used by the metro bunch, ment to be good, also a dunlop track tyre in that size
