Just returned to Mini Ownership after a good long break and enjoying the little monkeys again.

I recently bought a 1978 1275GT which I am slowly turning into an Old Skool look and will no doubt look to get something useful on the power plant in time.

I am no stranger to the turbo Mini scene having already been involved back in the day and have won Class D at the British Mini Showdown three times over the years and run a turbo'd Mini in the Extreme Mighty Minis. I remember well the first time a Class D car broke into the 13's at Avon Park and in those days we thought that was amazing; I would imagine things have moved on since then.

Best I ever saw out of my 1293 turbo was 190 BHP and 210 lbft torque which was a hoot to drive but a nightmare on ignition control.

I am toying with the idea of turboing again and learned of a manifold that can be used to avoid the cutting of the bulkhead; is this available new and where is the current source of expertise?

Thanks guys,

Mike

Hey Mike.... It must be what, 15 years ago you sold your mini?
I also got a pm from Andy Cameron a few weeks ago, he still has his old girl and sounds like he's ready to get back to having fun. Must be a mid-life thing lol...

Things have indeed moved on a little...
Search for matty manifold or mirage manifold - I think there was one in the for sale section recently...

Also familiarize yourself with gt1752 and mega jolt... And k1100...

Welcome back Mike. I too remember that very day turbo's broke into the 13's. It was a momentous occasion then and, while still impressive, as bit more of the norm now

I was also speaking with Andy a couple of weeks ago; he has indeed get his head back into the mini too

I remember the day coz I fixed his fuelling problem and he then went and beat me... He still had the in tank filter on the internal feed pipe which we fixed with a long screwdriver and a hammer.

I still feel pleased that I did and we went bezerk in the fire up lane when he posted that time.

Mike Cantelo,

wasn't it your mini that was the subject of the turboing article in KYMA no 1?

I remember that conversation and us removing the filter as a result. yes, big celebrations from all. To be honest, it showed the camaraderie

That's what it was always all about. We were all mates in Class D and shared info and mods and support. Me, Mark, Andy, Jon. Great days them.

Hi Mike
You probably won't remember me, but I met you at the Mini 40 celebrations in 1999 as I was camping right opposite you. Mine had been Turbo'd for a year and it was great chatting with you.
If I remember rightly you were working for Miniworld at the time ? I also met you at a couple of the showdowns way back ...
Anyway nice to see you back.

Phil.

Howdy Mike.... Been a while, well not since we bumped into each other at the M1 services and did one of those Hollywood man hug things!

I have loads of old pics from Back in the day when we both tried and succeeded in winning class D. .

Yup, been a while. Really enjoying the Mini and itching to start playing with it again. Things have moved on since we were building quick cars and there seems to be far more choice in manifolds and turbos and have you seen the 1/4 mile times now!!!
