so i was bored and started looking on the web and found some things about adding water to fuel ( wouldnt be super idea if you ask me) but also some things about water mist spraying onto the carb air inlet to clean an engine inside. now i heard about water injection to cool race engine's but to clean it on this way? sounds dangerous but intresting.
you can do anything if you set your mind to it...

Would washing up liquid in the petrol tank have the same effect? |

It's just steam cleaning, hold the throttle about half then lightly mist water from a spray bottle down the carb is what I've seen done. It's why the bores look clean when a head gasket goes into a waterway On 26th Jan, 2012 Tom Fenton said:

the problem i see is the masive raise of compresion since the water cant be compressed like fuel air mix. rest does make sence somehow. although... getting all that dirth loose in the cilinder bores and valve seats etc... just wanted your thoughts on these since it seemed something intresting you can do anything if you set your mind to it...

Fuel can't be compressed either.

Water injection is know to keep the combustion chambers cleaner than without it, but simply pouring in water with a crude spray at fast idle for a short while, will do fuck all. On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

I did, and im certain im not alone, robert runs(ran?) It on his tvr aswell. I tried pre and post turbo, pre turbo using a home made setup with a screenwash pump and aerosol nossles and once i saw the benefits i went post turbo with an aem setup, huge pump, progressive controller(referenced to boost) etc turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

its on your build tread? so you inject it trough the air inlet of the turbo? doesnt it make big droplets in the intercooler then? or do i get it wrong? Edited by Rammie2000 on 9th Dec, 2015. you can do anything if you set your mind to it...

origionally I injected into inlet of turbo, was on a hobbs switch so only active at boost over 7psi. given the airflow and the fact the turbo compressor was stirring it up it never pooled, no. later setup I had an atomising nossle fed at about 75psi right at the throttle body, again set to only come on about 10ish psi. If its not in my build thread Iv certainly talked about it lots on here and 16vminiclub. turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

I'm using the Aqumist stuff. Not really made the most of it yet. But am using a bit more timing now and haven't consumed a single head gasket since its been fitted. In the 13's at last!.. Just |

I tried water injection, I tried injection pre turbo, and in post intercooler, I could see no real gains in power, although engine did run cooler. On 15th May, 2009 TurboDave said:

I have a simple setup with a headlight washer pump, a solinoid and .675 nozzle.
I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Yes been reading that just 2 hours ago. Water methanol mix 50/50 and apparently very popular with diesel engines to.... does begin to sound nice thing to do. Although from performance point of view not to clean an engine that wasn't build for it. But how about rust? you can do anything if you set your mind to it...

mine gave no increase in power, what it did do though was allow me to go from 19psi of boost (detonation limited due to high CR) to 30+psi with more advance and not a hint of detonation. that obviously have a whopping increase in power, and one day the water injection failed (this was my bodgy pre-turbo setup) mid motorway pull and she instantly detonated and cracked some ringlands. turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

So what are you guys thinking of it. The advantages are bigger then the disadvantages or... it sounds like the ones who went to the water side like it. Seen some turbos on the web from a pre turbo setup who eroded the blades in to thin... water not air ;-D

The only drawback is running out of water/meth when your tune is relying on it (which it should be if you're making use of the kit).
