The valve seals were only different on the turbo engine because the valve stems were a larger diameter. Are you using the sodium fileed valves?

Thanks for your input I didnt think a standard set up would need so much technical input with the needle

Exhaust stem seals aren't needed as there isn't vacuum in the exhaust ports, and a little smoke is nothing to worry about yet- the fueling issue is however. Edited by turbodave16v on 4th Mar, 2017. On 17th Nov, 2014 Tom Fenton said:

Buy a wideband O2 sensor and do 90% of the tuning and 100% of the diagnosing yourself. Edited by turbodave16v on 4th Mar, 2017. On 17th Nov, 2014 Tom Fenton said:

Inlet valve seals are exactly the same as all a+ seals, so no idea why this is an issue.

Now don't take this the wrong way but I don't no too much about tuning etc that's why instead of me trying to understand timing etc I take it to my expert guy to sort so I just pick it up ready to drive ! If your expert carnt do that then he isn't much of an expert ! It's worth traveling for the right guy |

Was the carb fully rebuilt?

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

If he was not competent he would not be running a successful rolling road and tuning business with 3 employees and an army of followers. If things dont get resolved then I will move the car to another tuner who has extensive knowledge of the turbo set up cheers Roy I don't think anyone is "jumping on" the guy but simply making the point that there are very few people out there nowadays that will have even seen an SU carb, let alone the pressurised version that the turbo application requires. Let alone having a whole boxful of alternative needles and springs to alter it's characteristics to get the mixture right or the time/patience and experience to start altering (filing) the existing needle. It's all ECUs nowadays and from what you say about him and his reputation I'm sure he's very good with the modern stuff. But if you don't want to get a wideband - as has been suggested - so you can get the basics close to right yourself you will probably find the learning curve of your current choice costs more. Just my opinion. Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ??? |

Ok, so if he knows hs SUs there should be no problem. Tuning a turbo SU is no different to any other SU.

If you're replacing the stem seals the ones to use are the brown coloured viton MPI spec items.
