Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

well after my gearbox disaster i decided to fit a clubman SC set & drops which iam well pleased with even though a little earsplitting at times!

also a diffrent cam to the motor a piper phase 2 ABRT002
timing duration on the data sheet is 264 inlet 292 exaust???
on the avonbar website its 264 280???

full lift at 110 ATDC on number one inlet ( this cam was timed in correctley with DTI etc and checked a number of times!

the power band is supposed to be 1200 rpm to 6500rpm

see below on the avonbar website
http://www.speedgenie.co.uk/avonbar/camshafts1.html

right, this cam drives like a bag of S***E!

it wont pull right untill 3000rpm the it comes in with a bang around 3500 to around 6500+

i think this cam is WELL over the top for the road

OR have i messed up ?

or is this cam like this ?

running T 3 intercooled, 8.4:1 cr straight through exaust.

It is interesting what folks class as 'acceptable' for road use...
I suspect I'm more like you, being very critical...

But why didn't you question the timing on the spec sheet / website - or did you only realise this after investigation?

mines a similar setup to yours ben, 8:1 cr, T3, intercooled, straight through exhaust, clubman box etc.

I time mine in at 108 degree's as thats what the website said and it's fine. drives sweet as anything on the roads below 3k, fair enough it does take off after 3500 up to 6500 mind, but there's nowt wrong with how it pulls below 3k. As dave says you might just be too critical :)

I thought the phase to was very tractable and a great road cam, you want to try 7.5-1 compression and a cam thats almost 300 degrees !! lol.
Anyway like you i had the data sheet that differed from the figures on the Avonbar website. I timed mine in at 108 degrees and it pulled well with a smooth idle. I wonder whether advancing it from you 110degree setting a couple of deg would help pull the bottom end up a little ? I always advance it a couple anyway if using a chain, to allow for stretch. Again what you consider driveable may differ from my opinion ?

somet else to consider - I always check and compare lift on all the inlets. Helps show up any mistakes (which can happen) and the accuracy of the cam...

Deffo a problem if it's like that, mine idled smoothly with only a tiny hint of "caminess".

Jeez - I always wondered if an engine would run with a cam 180 degrees out. Thanks for clearing that up. LOL!

Next time, check all the inlet lobes (and exhausts if you can be bothered). Chances are, you'd have realised your mistake if you had (and allows you to check the cam over).

So are you running 1.5 rockers?

Can a camshaft be timed 180 degrees wrong? I don't understand that.

No - it's 360 degrees out isn't it?

either way - I think what Ben is saying is he timed the cam in 110 degrees after BDC instead of TDC...

Tom wont let on, but I feel I've recovered enough to submit myself to public humiliation.

I crashed the mini trike into the garage, and by into the garage I mean in through the open door and into the front of my wifes sportpack mini. Tools, tea, biscuits, Toms laptop - all went flying all over the place.

The damage to the trike was mainly to the wheel arches, as I manged to place the front of the trke down the side of the car.

The car took the brunt of the impact from the side of the trike. I think I'm looking at new front panel, wing, front and rear bumpers, maybe a bootlid (the car was in the corner near a wall), and I might need a new radiator for the kitchen as that got a bit squashed as well. Toms laptop amazingly still works, but it is very scuffed up which I'm looking into sorting out.

No-one was hurt (Tom's quick of the mark when he needs to be!) I've got some big bruises on my legs where I hit the tanks on the trike.

I was very lucky.....
