not too interesting but figured i'd pop it on here anyway. Here is where i am at the moment, lovely primered shell complete with visible weave carbon bonnet (just rested on in the photo as i havent drilled for the bonnet pins yet) and the cage has had its test fit (which it why it is on the piss in the photo), engine is in a few bits (head is with turbo hogster) and being hammerited, and my doors have just been flushed (ready for me to fit my chavvy remote door popper kit)

clearing out the garage soon hopefully so i can paint the engine bay, and get the engine on the subby and get the shell rolling again, also going to paint the interior so i can then bolt the cage in, and fit windows/doors so it is watertight and winterproof (as winterproof as a mini can be)
then its just build build build and bolt bolt bolt all the bloody bits i have bought over the years (as well as purchasing and fitting the ever controversial bolt on plastic exterior styling items :p)... i am growing impatient i have to say! :)

2 things i am not looking forward too .... 1) fitting roof lining and 2) wiring, oh well, all part of the fun *happy*

Head lining is a bastard. Wiring is not that hard, Alex_b's frog took me a day start to finish.

is it wise to leave the headlining out? i can imagine it being horribly noisy in the rain, lthough a forced induction a series aint the quietest of things :p
think i will put up with the hassle of the headlining, just for the luxury touch :)

Tom, it only took you a day? was that a new loom complete with tags to tell you what wire was which? i'm considering buying a new loom to make things run more smoothly.

kawasaki lime green (got 4 litres cellulose at trade price from a mate £91 inc thinners :))

basically it will be a green body, carbon bonnet, black mirrors, completely black 4 spoke revo's (i am having them powder coated so there will be no polished rim around the spokes, just all black) a black storm grill (from abs motorsport)and i am toying with the idea of having a black roof too.
i bought my wheels on a budget but eventually i hope to have gold 13x7" minilites (as some kawasakis come green with gold wheels and it looks mint)

"im sure you (or whoever that person is) was moving about as the pic loaded"
^^
well i am the guy in the pic with the crappy sideburns so i didnt take it :p ... it was taken on my mates shabby camera phone though

i paid £130 fir mibne, cant remember the name of the guy i got it from, but it took months to arrive and there are a few (what look like) air bubbles under the top layer.... not impressed! although he did tell me that i got one extra layer of carbon on mine for no extra money ... not really fused though, it looks not TOO shabby :)

so you guys reckon i should go for a black roof?
and should i colour code the roll cage, or leave it black to accent the black parts (interior is predominently black and carbon)

are you going to rebuild that engine I sold you mate? It's been standing for a while so it's worth stripping to make sure everything is ok.

well Jim, as mentioned earlier in the thread, the head is with turbo hogster at the moment having the chambers opened a bit to lower the compression ratio, and whilst that is off i am going to fit a new cam, paint the block up etc ... but on first inspection the engine is quality, i was a little worried you were gonna screw me over and sell me a dud, but i am pretty pleased with what i see at the moment *wink*

ps,incidentally, i was reading mini mag today on my lunch break from AUGUST 2003, and on page 42 i happened to recognise a certain Turbo mini owning fella from South Wales, who said "the best part of the day was beating a mini cooper S" .... had a good chuckle to myself and everyone in the staff room thought i was nuts.
:p

pps, speaking of cams, i was thinking of a kent 266, Piper Phase 2 etc etc ... anyone got any suggestions (aiming for a mildly tuned 130bhp for this build until i have the gearbox to cope with major power) or know of anyone that is selling a suitable cam i may buy?

ppps "Nice mini, but remember all that plastic will only slow you down. Quality project though, nice to see it done properly."
^^^
well, you may be right there, but i wouldnt live up to my Boy Racer persona if i didnt have any :p

I'd pay more attention to; crank bearings, thrust washers, piston rings, oil pump

than painting it up mate.

Ben Doodar .... bolt on plastic comes in the shape of the Radcor Retaliator Bodykit

just figured it was a little bit different from the majic/zeemax kits

and also i am getting this grill

as its black to complement bonnet/other black parts in the car, looks a bit mean i think :)

with the amount of speed bumps round here no doubt i'll whack the kit and crack it, end up taking it off and just putting wide as f**k carbon arches on, with carbon bootlid too, ...... maybe when i grow out of the "boy racer" phase eh? :p

"I'd pay more attention to; crank bearings, thrust washers, piston rings, oil pump

^^

now you're just trying to complicate things mate :p ... i was already planning on a new oil pump (rich recommended me one), but the other things... i dont even know what a thrust washer does :p

I'd find out then, as otherwise an old engine won't last 5 minutes when driven hard.

i would deffo listen to Tom, time spent on checking and correcting potential flaws in the bootm end equals time saved on ripping nackered engines out, money saved on scourcing new parts, and heart ache saved on "do i really want to go through that build again?"
