can i use a renault 5 turbo fuel pump on my turbo project i have modified the fuel tank by welding in a 8mm pipe in the top of the tank for the return fuel and fitted new fuel lines in 8mm pipe and fitted the metro fuel reg under the bonnet i also made up a fuel pump loom like era but not yet fitted the resistor do you need it

I would imagine you could, as long as it delivers enough pressure and flows enough. No idea what the metro one kicks out.

Pretty certain you dont need to use the resistor.

the metro turbo pump well run at 80lt/hr 25psi in std use

Well there you go, find out what the renault unit produces and robert is your mothers brother

I'm 100% sure the R5GTpump will be fine...

it is a carb'd turbo engine afterall.

i phoned renault today and the pump run 3bar so it makes it 43.5psi so this means i can run more boost

ermm, not quite as simple as that I dont think........

mine is a 5 turbo pump and fpr...... simply because thats what i could get for nothing..... not that im tight fisted at all!!!

runs fine at tickover, buit have not driven it yet, so cant confirm it will be fine all round.....

And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers!

A five pump should be fine as they manage to supply a larger capacity engine.

On that note surely you could scavange a high pressure fuel pump from a variety of cars in the scrap yard?

i had a ford orion high pressure pump once which was identical to my metro one

what if you use water inj to what you looking at to must pressure for the head gasket or heat

I think you would have problems with getting a turbo to produce that amount of pressure and still be efficient. Also your charge would be extremely hot, making it unlikely you would be able to get charge temps down enough.
And if you get round all that, stopping it detonating due to the massive cylinder pressure will also mean retarding the ignition timing severely.

i'd be more worried about the big fucking holes in the engine where the rods and pistons used to be than the head gasket at 41psi.....


I'm sure i remember reading that the metro pump puts out 36psi as standard anyway.

what would you call safe boost on a 1293 with t3

depends...if its a 1293 with 21251 pistons then 4psi, if its a 1293 with JE pistons then a bit more. it depends on the entire build dude, need more info to determine a boost level.

turbo t3 std
arp rod bolts
arp main bolt
4bolt center cap
pistons ? c/r ?

Std head means even with large dished pistons you are going to be at approx 8.5:1 at a guess

This means not much more than 12psi, also at a guess. I have done the calcs for my own engine but I can't be arsed to spend the time doing them again for an engine that isn't mine.
