Hello -

Can anyone tell me if the Metro Turbo brake discs & callipers will fit straight onto a '91 Mini Cooper on standard 12" Minilites?

The driver's side disc is warped and one of the pistons is stuck out of it's housing, so I thought that as I have a Metro Turbo subframe in the garage I might be better of swapping them over. Any comments?

Jim

PS. The standard disc has an integral spacer - will this cause a problem if I use the Metro discs? What I mean is - will I need to buy a seperate pair of spacers?

you need : metro disks, drive flange's and calipers.

Mini hubs bearings CV etc (i.e. whats on your car)

and ERA caliper bolts, although some people dont bother.

Cool. Erm...not wanting to seem too much of a divvy, but what exactly do you mean by the "drive flanges"?

Cheers *smiley*

The drive flange is the bit that connects your brake disk to your hub and cv joint... it also carries the studs for your wheels!

you will need to grind down the 4 lugs on the metro drive flanges cos otherwise your wheels wont go on.

Not very sunny swanage

era caliper bolts have the right sized thread and the right sized shank to hold the caliper firmly in place, neither the metro or the mini ones are quite right. something to do witht the metro using metri and the mini not or something.

other thought..... what are era caliper bolts? they were produced whe era built the turbo cars since they used the metro brakes on mini flanges.

hth, and sorry its not overly clear

Pete

And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers!

basically to clear it all up,

minis had a imperial thread and bolt shank, metros had a metric thread and shank,

therefore using metro callipers and mini hubs requires a special bolt that has one of each.

They get called ERA bolts as this was the only "production" mini that used the 4 pots off the metro hence the need for the bolt.

If you need some hoses give me a shout and ill sort you out with some at a good price *smiley*

i think it messes up the geometry or summat like that if you use all metro stuff.

It widens the track and wrecks your suspension angles completely!!!

Using metro hubs basically wears the inside edge of your tyres down real fast, like they have on mine.

I am working on a resurected project-has sat in the garage for about 5 years --and I'm buggered if I can remember which hubs I have. Is there an easy way to tell the difference between Metro and Mini????

the metro hub's don't have grease nipples for the ball joints as the metro uses non servicable ball joint's

Metro ball joint screw in as a complete unit I believe... so probably the same as Billy is saying.

exactly what i heard billy.

mk1 metro ball joints on metro hubs give the same geometry as the mini hubs.

Not my words but purely what i was told *smiley*

never tried it though.

different things...

apperently mk1 metro joint fit mini hubs with no problems to gemotry.

metro hubs all cause problems.

I have metro hubs and early ball joints on the clubby and it is fine *wink*
I also have 1.5o bottom arms

I know the metro vented drive flange moves the wheels out around half inch a side

Its not so much the flanges widen the track... its more the KPI is changed for the worse as the bottom arm on metros is in a different place. Negitive camber arms will sort out the camber for you but the KPI is still wrong.

the flanges space the wheel's out for the vented disc to clear the hub *wink*
as my 10" wheeled mini uses metro flanges and is just legal with 5x10s and A008s with the standard grey arches

the metro setup I'm running came from another mini I had that was totaly standard suspension wise yet drove fine with no tyre wear issues
