Up for a bit of discussion

“Is this country really going down the pan… or is it just as you get old you find out more and more what life is really like?”

I’m not entirely sure it is, certainly while I have been working I have followed a very unusual career (i.e. completely unplanned but lucky!) All companies are poor and couldn’t careless about their staff. So either I’m too cynical for my age or I have lots of uncaring employment.

I'n my experiance this is a typical career.

Lifes good for me atm, I'm a firm believer of the saying 'the grass is always greener on the other side', and I don't honestly believe that living in any other 'western' country would be any different.

I could come up with enough good reasons to convince someone to come and live in the uk.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

I've done a fair bit of travelling through work so get to see the "work" side of things in other countries as i'm sure a fair few people do on here.
I can honestly say i'm pretty happy with this country and cant see another one i'd like to move to in the near future!!

My career was semi planned (i.e. i wanted to go into mechanical engineering), but aside from that its just a case of seeing whats round the corner.

Although a beach bar somewhere warm and sunny would be hard to refuse *happy*

I've worked in a few countries, and this one is definately the worst. I can't put my finger on why, but I definately prefer working overseas.

As I say, the grass is always greener....

I could argue almost every point you make, especially water, tax and the railways, but as you say lets stick to minis.

I look at it this way, as i have little experiance of how the country has canged over the years - im only 23

i work for tesco at the moment as a shelfie at night. I cant find a graduate job even though the dicipline i studied has a massive demand according to the government/academia.

Since working at tescos there have been several 'invasions' (i've only worked there for a year and a half, if that) of migrant workers. The first, when i got there was africans (my mrs is one of them, so i know this crowd well). Upon starting most of them just expect to be treated reasonably and with respect (and equally). This obviously goes straight out the window, they often had substandard pay compared to the rest of the workers and were treated like children by management (this is the british way, if they dont understand shout louder etc).

Next in was a group of indian/pakistani workers, they were quiet and well manered on the whole. They expected the same, but got the same. They couldnt understand why the staff were treated so unnecessarily badly by the company and the management. Back at home they were expected to work longer hours and get the same amount of pay in a year that we would get in a day (i kid you not). However, they were treated well and looked after by their employers.

The last in were the polish, they have literally taken over northampton. I've never seen anything like it. At night the spoken word on the shop floor is polish, the workers are mainly polish, the shoppers are nearly all polish. Even the delivery drivers are now polish. Apparently a year ago every tescos extra store in the country, must be hundreds and hundreds has specifically brought 20 polish workers over to work stacking shelves at night. All warehouses have around 100 polish people in the same boat.

I hear unemployment in the uk is rising.

The thing that really really gets me is that in my mrs's country, ghana/gold coast, the mother gets around 200 quid a month to live on (this isnt really enough, even though shes a pharmasist ffs). But even if she didnt have a job she would still be ok, because at the end of the day she would be able to get food to live etc as do most of the people in the country as most (50%+) are unemployed. Whereas in this country if you dont work, you dont eat and some people even die because they havent got enough money to pay the gas bill for their heating...

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

Im only 22, and I think all this political correctness is crap.

I think people should just say what they think, and if theyre judged by it, so be it. Its better than thinking one thing and then saying the "correct" thing instead.
People have been made afraid to voice their own opinions cos they dont fit in with these crackpots that think everyone should pretend to be happy and nice, its a bunch of arse.

*edit*
Thats not really just this country though, more of a global issue probably....ill shut up now..:)

I suppose like a handful of other people I still take some pride in the UK. The weather may be a bit duff on the whole, but it is where I am from and I like it.
Another reason for this I think is that I work in the much depleted UK manufacturing sector, a primary industry, actually producing a commodity.
For me one of the reasons this country is hard going at present is the recent scourge of "no win no fee" lawyers, and american style blame culture, which I don't like one bit. I also don't like the amount of power that extremist muslims seem to be holding globally. But that is another discussion.

It has to be said that more could be done, especially to aid younger people getting on in life, a prime example is I am just buying my first house, and am going to get right royally stung for "stamp duty". Stamp duty my arse, give it its correct name, HOUSE TAX.

i hate the way you pay tax when you earn your money, and then you pay it again when you spend it, and sometimes you pay it for owning what youve bought with the money youve allready payed tax on twice.

This country of our that our grandparents fought fort a crock of shite,
The royals bleed us dry
The government bleeds us dry
The bosses treat us like shite
You can’t walk down your street without seeing a immigrant worker
We worry about our kids walking to school (perverts watching them)
And when they get to school do we know who is looking after them?
And only today we are told that we have to water meters fitted and not 100 yards from my home there is gallons of water leaking out of the road
And the roads are f@@@@@g shit they just knacker you minis up
Want any more reasons just ask

I do beleve we are on the eve of destruction

Just come across this post, liking the different points of view. To come to something close to most of our hearts, Racing!! British Motorsport is going down the pan at the moment, the quality of the circuits etc. I am fortunate enough to get to go to several European Race circuits where the facilities are superb, people on the gate at all hours etc. Whereas we turned up to Oulton Park for a meeting and the bloke on the gate wouldn't let us in!!! Had to sit outside and sleep in the truck!!! And most of the pit facilities leave a lot to be desired!!!
