I thought I'd keep this in the same section...What are your opinions on the spec of this?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AC-DC-TIG-WELDER...=item25668e5634

As my mig has started playing up, I thought I might as bite the bullet and go for a tig. I only going to be using it for the little bits and bobs mainly steel but may try my hand at some ally when the time comes. Just need to know if it looks like it has all the functions/spec you would generally need, and that its not missing something important (or makes things easier).

leeds/wakefield.

it'll have all the functions you will ever need, but

when i was looking for a tig set i was determind not to buy one of these chinese sets, the general consensus is they are fine untill they go wrong , then you will not be able to find anyone to fix it as no parts are available ,

i may be wrong

so i boad my time and what appears to be the right set came along via ebay,

it big, its heavy, it's old and its a miller, ac/dc ,

and itworks just fine, and more importantly should carry on working fine for years to come,

bur it's a little easier for me as i have three phase,

This is all fair comment BUT I stand by my comments of 3 years ago; second hand AC/DC TIG welders of the big names in single phase are still big money. Yes the 3 phase can be had cheaper.

Mine has done 3 1/2 years now, if god forbid it did shit itself tomorrow and I couldn't fix it, for the £385 I paid I would go and buy another one the same. So far it stands me at about £100/year.

Ah yeah looks like it doesn't? So what would the AC function be used for? I thought that was for ally?

Yes you can weld aluminium with that set, however the duty cycle is only 60%, so you won’t be able to welding flat out for long periods of time before it cuts out due to over heating

Well ive bitten the bullet and bought myself a TIG! *happy*

After searching for a rehmann or Mitech and having no luck or finding a definite conclusion what chinese welder is a good and what is not. I decided to go with one of these. I spent double my original budget, and originally went in for a 160A but then the 200A worked out about the same as they have an offer on at the moment, and I also came away with lots a free goodies! :) The guys at R-tech were really helpfull and filled me with confidence about there machines and warranty. They've offered me free welding lessson/demonstrations if I struggle with anything, so now all there is to do is burn some holes in some metal. lol

Yeah it's great!

It's had a hell of a lot of use now. I was sold the 200A one as I was told the 160A was a bit limited, but in all honesty I've only turned it above 160A once or twice now. I was welding my box up yesterday, and that was only on 150A.

I'd say apart from the outer casing thats the same as mine, all the knobs and the control panel display look the same. Mine is on 5 1/2 yrs now and still going strong, I use it most weeks.

Hi all,

Will this do what I want for a TIG welder to weld stainless and Aluminium?

http://www.finn.no/finn/torget/annonse?fin...searchQuery=TIG

I understand that it is a welder made by lincoln, but it is now marketed as a telwin.

Will it have enough capacity, and will I miss any functionality on it that is available on newer welders?

Looks a decent machine. Should be more than good enough for use at home.

Tom, Guys
Foot pedal is more for AC welding, you hit the pedal then back off a lot when welding Aluminium so that's probs why you havn't felt you need one.
