How much weight did you manage to lop off the rear subby?

I'm trying to decide whether to cut mine down or simply fit alloy radius arms to a lightened standard one.

Thanks
James

i can honestly say! alloy radious arms instead of chopping the rear subby, the weight loss is probobly only 5kg if that! but i've done mine now! lol anyhoo i've been busy on the car whilst sending out CV's n letters to various places for work, only good thing of not working at the mo is being able to fiddle on the mini woo hoo anyhoo heres what ive been up to, i know my welding is'nt too pretty but its penetrated well!

even more, i think the arms look ok, using braided hoses & copper pipe in the car for brakes & fuel, mintex road pads on the back & fast road pads on the front! it was what i was advised, i'l update on my self drilled s-disks once i've bolted the rear suspension back on!

any advice plz dont hesitate

fcked up my holes on the rear subby, they're all to cock but i'll just have to save for a proper rear beam unless one pops up on egay or here! arrrh well, the homemade rear beam is seam welded & will be bolted solid to the healboard

look what i got yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :oD an engine hoist/crane, its the threaded bar type that dont go wrong or leak & its a peice of piss lining your engine mounts up, can move 1mm at a time if you want, i dead happy with it!!!! its strong too 1.5tons & folds down, fckin hevy as a mofo though, i reckon it weighs as much mini engine & box on its own, stable too although i may put big wheels on to make it easier to move as i have a gravel entry, i think i have all the basic tools to get by now!

wish list is a lathe & know how to use one
2 post lift if my garagae roof was high enough & rolling road-dream on!

well things have been a bit slow on the mini turbo front! lack of money time & a problomatic daily driver although once my dily driver is running ok i'll get mini turbo bk together & running,

i did make some mods, i've tied my cage onto the inner a-posts by the screen & also on the b-posts, its simply bolted to the body & the plate with the holes in is welded to the cage so its still removable!

this has allowe me to be silly! i've cut the parcel shelf & rear seat back out of the car completely! i've addred some strength in other areas, braced the rear arches, & stiffening plate in some areas, i have to do pics yet but the she seems loverly & stiff so i can safely say i think the suspesion is doing the movement rather than the shell!

i also bought some m10 stainless nuts n bolts from wrights auto supplies to bolt the cage back in! then i'm moving onto ripping the old motor out & lightening & strengthening the front subby! i'll keep you posted, i could do with some advice on where to add some stiffening due to chopping thecarso much, but, it is light

it'll be road legal !!!just!!! flipfront to come yet!

you might find some stainless bolts arent suitable for hight load applications, like suspension/cage etc, and its best sticking with proper high tensile bolts

if you put the bolts in from underneath the car, the threaded ends dont stick out and rust

i did think that but i thought the stainless m12's that hold my cage in should be strongs enough?????? if its an issue then i'll put the old high-tens back in let me know ppl

Proper Grade B8 stainless bolts or studs are virtually as strong as Grade 8.8 structural. Bolts without marking (either carbon or stainless steel) should always be avoided.
