Paul, I'm still looking for one of these for my remote box, if you have the prototype sorted I'll take one. PM me your details and I'll get the money sorted. I can fit it when I've got the box stripped for installing the ATB diff.

Cheers, Keith

If for a remote, you can just cut away the bit above the linkage. There's no oil being thrown up there anyway.

Have fun.

As a side, I found mine really tricky to get fitted right, either touching 1/2 syncro hub gear (is that what it's called) or scraping on the bigend bolt heads.

Is a 998 a bit tighter as the conrods bolt on at an angle?

Just a thought, I can't see it could be made to fit any better by the way, just wondering if it's a tighter fit on the small bore engines?

TBH Wil, thats something I didnt think about, the rods that is.
It could well be a bit tighter but you should be able to bend it slightly by hand to get a clearance.

As they are rolled by hand there is a slight variance from one tray to another

If it doesnt fit, i can swap it for another, not that it would make much difference, but if you cant use it I can refund you.

I seriously doubt it!

Don't worry, it has additional bends and is now fitted and sat in the engine bay ready to be fired up this weekend.

You keep saying this.

You seem to forget the oil surging in the sump, never mind the gears throwing the oil upwards.

If your theory is right and you do not need anything at that end of the box, why do engines that have a plain sump (no gearbox throwing oil up), have a baffle fitted the full length of the sump?

Well, that's the difference between a windage tray and a crank scraper I guess...

The oil surging bit I don't understand..

Don't take this as a bad comment about the product, it isn't. The product is great!

I think the baffle is fouling something *oh well*

Everything was fine right up untill it went on the rollers for a dyno shoot out. The operator was extremely rough with it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e80LZgyQqIo

200+ miles with a good hard thrashing at Minis Vs Beetles everything was fine, goes onto the rollers fine, and leaves with excessive noise!! I thought it was down to the exhaust manifold fouling on the subframe/ bulkhead. I've had the engine out and moved it forward 10mm on the subframe, nothing is fouling. Yet when I take it for a drive, there is a loud rattle/ grinding/ knocking sort of noise. It seems to ease off when crusing, but under acceleration its evident.

Might be something more sinister, but im keeping my hopes up its the baffle. I recon its moved for what ever reason and those H section steel rods are catching it.

I'll keep you posted

Thats what my last engine was doing. Everything was fine on idle or light crusing or even revving it stationary. It turns out my thrust bearings had worn down to the size of a stanley knife blade and put a 2mm groove in my crank! Do you have any play on your bottom pulley? My engine had only done a few track days and some B road thrashes, approx 600miles This is on my engine I didnt have the baffle tray fitted to. Its going in my new one!

No extra end float on the crank.

Only one way to find out what the problem is

Got the engine out today and pulled the gearbox off.

Partial diagnosis. It's not the baffle. There is a lot of bronze in the sump. Anyone care to guess where its come from. Its not the primary gear. or the dif output cover bushes

Choices of little ends, crank thrusts, lay gear thrusts dif planet gear thrusts, dif output shaft bushes. Anything Else I have missed?
