Would it not be cheaper to get one sent direct to denmark?

Sprocket seemed to have invested an interest in this thread. Although we will need to confirm his involvement.

Dan can i ask you to drop to 80 pounds on the crankshafts each?

This would bring the overall figure down to 130 pounds delivered per crankshaft.

This is based upon an initial shipping cost of 250 pounds from South Africa to the United Kingdom.

However if JohnK can provide us with an initial shipping cost of 200 pounds and Dan can provide us with a price of 80 pounds. This would bring the total cost of the crankshaft delivered to 122 pounds.

However Import duty will come into play here. Bringing the total up to 135 pounds. To cover import tax and Minimole23`s costs for packaging and a little bit so he can have a pint down the pub.

Turbo Tom, it shouldn't be such an issue. to send the crank too you however you will have to pay an additional 12 pounds postage costs, and import duties in your country are for you to deal with.

Just waiting on JohnK and Dan mostly. Although you can sure as hell guarantee the odd one or two will pull out.

Hi guys - been stuck in a noisy dyno cell for two days - I'll get our freight company to price up - based on a mini pallet with 6 cranks - total weight 80kg? on Monday

It's not going to be cheap as there will be import duty and vat to contend with as well as shipping from a port to our premises - it all adds up

JK

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

I pulled out, not because I do not want one, I just cannot justify buying one at this time. There is also the fact of method of payment.

Bank transfer from my bank has a fairly hefty charge. Aslo, transfering money to an individual that you do not know other than from a few posts on this forum, in a country several thousand miles away?! Now I am not saying that Pinky is going to rip me off, far from it, but is still an un secure payment with no real gaurantee of anything turning up, even if the parts had been sent. Aslo, as John K has pointed out, there WILL be import duty and tax payable.

That said, will make one of these cranks in my hand cost roughly £200 - 250 all in, which would need work on it to put it in an engine.

I'll take my chances with what is available in the UK:)

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Understandable Sprocket.

However my search for this crankshaft in the UK has been fruitless to say the least.

John, i think 80kg is somewhat beyond what 5 crankshafts would weigh. 55kg is probably closer to the mark.

From another SA point of view:

I doubt that Dan could pick up the cranks here for much less than 1000 SA Rand, The exchange rate is now only R11.5-1 so from what i can see, they are gonna run him over 80 quid each.

So when the final cost is confirmed we shall get throwing money about.

Just one question, are these cranks getting shipped to specialist components, or me, or us individually then?

Shall we let this run till the 10th, so that gives anyone who wants to sign ap a week to decide?

After that, push to sort the postage, payment and finer details out.

Sorry ive been so quite lads.

You guys can pay via paypal.

Just some more info on the cranks, they are all good secondhand units and will all be sandblasted and the journals polished before being shipped.

I am aware I basically revived this thread however after a lenghtly conversation with a top engine builder, the time, cost and special components required to produce a short stroke engine will not be fully utilised in my car, therefore the best solution is going to be a 1293cc

I will say however if my pulling out will jeapordise the group buy, I will reconsider my position.

Sorry about this, but until you talk things over with an expert you can never be quite sure what the best solution will be, and in my case standard stroke is the way to go.

It appears that, one dropping out and 01Smartc getting banned means this is again gone under the water.

I think ill have too source a crankshaft within this country.

Sorry Dan, although, if you are coming to rainy england any time in the next couple of years wouldn't mind dragging one along with you would you? :)
