Got all the front end bolted on today to sort the panel gaps out. The wings weren't a great fit, the profile at the front was nowhere near that of the bonnet

It wasn't much better down the edge either and around the scuttle needed some work

So after a full day of bashing the gaps aren't far off now

Will unbolt the wings and front panel and get them ready for welding next. Got the dash rail welded in yesterday aswell

Cheers

Look much better than the gaps to start with! Whats the idea behind the paint on the edges between bonnet and wing?

The paint just makes it easier to see the gaps that's all

CO2 Fire extinguisher connected to your MIG? Did the regulator just bolt straight on, is there a specific style of bottle to look out for ?

Great panel work btw.

Cheers mate. The regulator was bought from machine mart, not sure which one it is as I bought it quite a while ago now but it does bolt straight up to the co2 fire extinguisher. There's no specific type as all co2 extinguishers use the same type of valve so the thread is the same. Alls you have to do when using it is to keep the handles compressed, pretty obvious but I have seen others struggle with that part.

Been working on small details in the engine bay yesterday wanted to get them all done before the wings go on.

The bulkhead was off a mk1 so i copied the mk2 on saturn shape over to the crossmember where the master cylinders go

Before

After

The square holes that the voltage regulator fixes to wernt central, think it must of moved when it was pressed, so i put them right

Before

After

Welded the engine steady bracket back on and decided to strengthen it up with some triangulation and a few stitch welds, maybe a bit over the top but this did break off on my last mini

Got the bonnet prop bracket back on, thats that side done

Then the other side was just the radiator cowl

Wings and front panel next

Started on changing the indicator plinths back to original. Didn't realise m machine made the smaller ones until recently, at first i thought i would have to leave it with the larger ones.

Got the passenger side in tonight

Conversion panel tacked in

Welded and lininshed

The difference is the size of the flat circular plinth that the lense sits on, if you look at the before picture around the lense rubber there is about 10mm of the flat plinth showing whereas with the conversion panel welded in the plinth is the same size as the lense

Got the other indicator plinth finished today.

After

My primer arrived last week so i managed to get the inner wings and the inside of the front panel and wings painted, should be ready to weld on next week.

Not made my mind up yet, original colour was island blue with snowberry white roof

I really like sandy beige with a snowberry white roof, quite a rare colour as well

But i prefer a black roof on a mini so snowberry white and black which is winning for me at the minute, was also the colour of my first mini. At some point i will have black rose petals and i think they will work best with this colour

What's everyone think?

A mini is born! Front end is mostly welded on, couple of bits that were hard to access still to do once its back on the spit.

Will get the doors bolted on next and sort the gaps out
