I had the day off work today, so I popped to my local Motorsport exhausts place. Had a good chat with the guys there, and they can supply me with a MUCH tighter bend for the turbo elbow. So much so that'll it'll be 90 degree bend now. It'll mean that there will be much more block clearance and will bring the downpipe down near vertically down the block and bring it towards the centre more. There is a minimum order, so I'll have to wait for pay day to get the next batch of pipes.

This looks far to close to the bulkhead and outdrive pot? wont the heat be a problem?

On your list for both downpipe and manifold

Jawd

These are looking awesome, a real credit to you matty for sorting all these out

Jawd.. my down pipe was very close and I had no issues even with a 300 mile ish round trip

Ok Brett thanks for the input

Recieved downpipe off Matty and what a great piece of kit.

Managed to get the downpipe on yetserday and start the mini for the first time.

Had to make a few mods to the top section to clear water take off for turbo off the back of the block, this wont effect members with the GT1752 plumbed in before the heater matrix.

Subby will also be required to be cut to allow additional clearance for the top section.

Thanks again Matty.

I can't believe everyone is having to bash and dent these things to make it clear all sorts of bits in their engine bays.

I am happy with the fitment now after seeing how well it fits on Lee's car so I can now take payments for the downpipes.

PLEASE NOTE: the subframe lip will either need to to be tweaked flat or removed where the downpipe passes, as it may touch at that point.

If you would like one, pm me and let me know where you would like the lambda boss positioned. I have the top sections made, but I still need to get the second sections made up a and the is a 7 day lead time on these. The top bend has the reduced section formed as part of the bend, and the second section will be expanded at the end to fit over a 2" centre section.

Great piece of kit, thanks again Matty.

Appoloiges for taking a vice and hammer to the top section to clear water banjo, but this wont effect everyone.

I can't believe you think that something like this will fit the same in every aplication without some tweeking in certain cases! Nothing is standard here, and Matty has done a very good job making it that much easier to use the GT1752 turbocharger. Its not Matty's fault that some one has decided to put a non standard part in the way. There are ways round the problem, and for Lee, having already drilled and tapped a non standard hole into the block for the water take off, made use of the hammer. It certainly wont affect performance. For what it's worth, if Lee had the downpipe before thinking about where to take the water from, using the hammer approach might not have even been considered. Have some respect............

If you find that a bit harsh, i'm sorry.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Sporcket im offended that you suggest I used a hammer....... it was a FCUKing big hammer i'll have you know.

At least it in a position where yu will never see the manner rash, if i could tig i may have with a flat piece of stainless steal there.

As sprocket says though guys there may be some slight modification required as all mini's are not alike.

As Colin has said, it has been designed to be as universal fitting as possible. The 1st downpipe was a trial to see if a 57mm downpipe was a viable option, and after feedback from Nick, it turned out to be too much of a squeeze on a standard setup. Which was the reasoning behind doing it in two parts and reducing down to 51mm before the pot joint. Moving the pipe further from the block to clear the water feed was too much of a compromise, and would mean it fouling completely on the subframe. There will always be a difference in opinion on how the fit should be, and with making it in 2 parts in means it can be adjusted to suit engine tilt, and the second section can be tucked right up inside the tunnel if an internal linkage is used. It's possible to squeeze a water fitting in without having to dent the pipe, but it will require modifying the banjo setup.

I'd like to stress that there is no need to dent the downpipe to get it to fit. The only modification that may need to be done is the subframe may slightly need relieving on the top lip, depending on engine tilt and where the downpipe is positioned.

These are the final first bend sections complete, just awaiting the second parts the be formed now.

I second Mattys comment, there is no need to molest the manifold, I only did it to allow additional clearance for the water take off on the rear of the block.

If I had known it was going to be that close I would of thought of another way to feed to turbo, but had already done the block and had the radiator modified.

I collected the second sections of the downpipes this evening, so all those that have paid will be completed over the weekend.

Here's the first one done.
