touche!

I think the only way we're going to settle this once and for all - is to take a super-lightweight mini (maybe nic's) that regulary puts in consistently quick times to within a few tenths each run - THEN bag it down with sandbags such that it weighs the same as a porker like Matt Wood's mini...

It won't be highly representative - as you can really only add ballast in the cabin - but it'd be more than anyone has done before methinks?

Challenge Nic coming up!

i think what a few ppl have said is true to be fair, especially nic, if the metal or whateva you remove on the car is'nt needed/somthing you dont use, take it out,

any form of motorsport is all about power to weight in a given cars class

even in a production car it comes down to power to weight to an extent

power to weight is the key, i'm only a lil lad anyhow & 8st 2lbs in weight,

i have the bare minimum in my car anyhow even though its my daily driver instument pod, heater, 2 seats cahe & harness's, i have a lightweight grp bucket for the track

just think if you are not (like me) a fan of leather, walnut & all the show blingy chromey bits & prefer a purpose car make it that way, i'm basicly trying to make a road going racecar that is used on a daily basis but when the weekend comes i unbolt the seats n stereo & go play!!! lose weight go fast haha!

i have a spare rear subframe & radious arms in mint condition, what ways could i make it lighter but keep the strength?

also are alloy wheels lighter than my cooper reverse rims?

just ran a quick drag simulation , it said:
570kg 13.42 s@108.5mph
710kg13.72s@103.8mph
800kg13.90s@101.2mph
this is with 160 bhp and torque at wheels.
the model showed a pretty accurate repeat of cars perf where i knew the weight of the car .but it was set on optimum launch , which gave 2.2 sec 60 ft on all runs. take it all with a pinch of salt but it may show a trend and a proportion of the gain possible.
regards robert.

Medusa + injection = too much torque for the dyno ..https://youtu.be/qg5o0_tJxYM

I cut the roof out of mine, replaced it with carbon.

Sure its lighter especially as it had a sun roof! but it took me ages to get it right and to look neat. I wouldn’t recommend doing this unless your really serious about chopping the weight, it was more than hard work *tired*.

Main reason i did mine was to get rid of the sun roof and all the dents?!

but if you need any advice about how i did it let me know, happy to help.

mines also got a fibreglass front end, boot and rear valance, polycarbonate windows etc

the best weight save IMO was the glass by far.

Good Luck with the build! *smiley*

minis don't have the tar sound proofing like metro's do they??

If it were present chipping all of it out will save a fair few kilos, i got nearly a bucket full out of a metro, must have been getting on fo 5 kg,

yes. id say more than 5kg tbh, put it this way i filled a bin bag with the stuff and i pulled it in two when i tried to lift it.

i think iv read that including carpet and underlay, tar sound proofing= arond 25kg!!!
could be wrong though but im sure thats what they said!
i might have all the glass replaced with perspex (SP?) apart from the windscreen (keep that glass as it would get scratched with the wipers i think?)

cheers

Yeah it would scratch and im sure that its also illegal to replace the front screen.

Don’t use Perspex though, get some polycarbonate, its stronger and just as light!

heres a real world test i performed. ran up the strip all day and for my last 3 runs i removed, passenger seat, rear seat and a trollly jack. knocked 3 10ths off my time straight away, and increased my terminal speed to the point where i had to reach for 5th jsut crossing the line! .. not ideal but that wasnt much weight and made a massive difference!

turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)
