Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Unfortunately the cars not ready and i dont have a licence *frown* as in race! *happy*

I would prefer to keep the revs down and use the torque to pull the high FD although i may keep the 3.9 to start.

Well yes the term bananas is by default claimed. However, even if a claimed 160 is 20% out that is still over 120. I think we all knew who to believe and what is possible with the money and time. Just look at JF and MW.

its the 1.4 equivilent.surely.
your metro holds the record for mod prod saloons[up to 1400cc] because it had a very brave driver, lots of cash thrown at it and a trip to terrapin services for the final touches, anything it needed it got throughout the season, including 2k in data logging back in 1996.
I can't take away the fact it was a very rapid piece of kit though , quite annoying sometimes really,
carl

plus the fact it was origionally built be a person who had an idea of what was needed ,

Ey, Power is nothing withiout control.

To get the 1/4 mile time some were getting with 1380s at Avon this year they must have more than 120 bananas.

BHP is a funny thing, you claim less when you're winning and more in the pub.

Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

well,
I didn't read all the post as being frenchy ,it's more difficult to read all and understand well, but what I noticed is new generation turbos compared with old one, and arguments on supercharging. having some tries on these :
my experience is that a supercharged mini ( it was not like vmax scart a such thru, but a blow thru because of intercooling) have a very good power delivery , improving a lot of lags probs than we had with an hybrid t25 turbo which had pain to make difference after corners against n/a 1380 310° camed, the turbo made too much time to come on.... then we are now thinking to leave the supercharger and go back with last generation turbos, because these seem to spool much earlier with bigger a/r than before .at this time we have found a good vnt turbo, which will produce as much boost as a supercharger in the lower rpm and then willl give more more top end. I love the supercharged one,but really something is missing when you want to rev it and more I became nostalgic of the turbo sound when it cam in (a very strong pshhhoooouuuiiii :))
garrett resolved a lot of ennoyoing trouble with turbos when making their new gt range

It'd tell me that a leaf blew in front of the timing beam, just like you reckon it did Ian Johnson a few years back LOL!

just to say boys 1/4 mile times and racing round a track for 20mins have very little in common ,chris maries in his z cars monte mini will prop do 11 sec 1/4 but is less than a sec faster round cadwell than me in my 120bhp (real power) very drivable metro, what im try to say the whole package as got to be drivable not all wheel spin, lag ,lag then wheel spin darting left darting right as i imagine a hi powered turboed A series to be

Hey Andy, I get the feling that your mind is made up about turbchargers being laggy and un-drivable anyay and no-one on this site can change your mind? *laughing*

So why not concentrate on the Supercharger route... The Eaton superchargers are FAR from the most efficient superchagers however - that is a positive displacement type will make more power. So if you REALLY want to supercharge - AND to be competitive - The Eaton unit isn't going to win you any trophies. You need to opt for a Sprintex, Opcon, Rotrex, etc...

Stu from Cornwall is the supoercharger 'tech' person on here and will reccomend several types for sure. But I know he WON'T reccomend the Eaton. Simple as.

so can somebody tell me will a super charger give me 30/40 bhp more, if i lower the compression on my engine and keep the same cam shaft. Will I then basically have the same power curve just with 30/40 bhp more.

As dave says ,it all depends on which charger you choose , if you choose the cheep as chips eaton m45 then the answer has to be NO,

wheres if i was trying to increase HP ,i would go turbo charged and seek the advice of 2 maybe 3 people off this site and ask nicely, but even though i know these people personally i'd be surprised if they gave me all the info they possess and i required,
there is no easy way to say it Andy but you need to put some wonga where your heart lies and try it.and if it works out some brownie points go your way and you can tell folk you did it your way .
i suspect seing as your a new member nobody will give there hard earned knowledge away gratis,
ask yourself ,would you ??.

i know of your car from years ago ,and good luck to you for owning it ,anfd i suspect you and it will do well within your class , but there is still no easy answer to your question.

If all you're after is 30-40 hp maybe I'm not understanding something? I thought you raced this car - and would therefore be put in a class 1.4times your current cc class??? If that is the case, then surely you want to choose the best, most efficient way of 'using' this forced multiplyer instead of just opting for the cheapest option???
BUT if you really are only looking at 30-40hp, then the widely available Bini M45 is likely going to do for what you want?
