I really want to go. Just depends how the car is! I plan to get it done asap!

Agree about safety being a priority just wondered what the rules were.

Any good places to get quality but reasonable priced kit from?

Also open or full faced helmet? Is it personal preferance?

Right then, here's the latest.

Open faced helmets are allowed. The guys are going to get back to me next week with a list of available dates. They have also suggested that we invite some mini mag people along to take some piccies. They will gladly provide helmets for hire and welcome mini only trackdays if we can get enough people interested. It may be that we do some mixed car trackdays at first, but as interest grows I'm sure that more mini people will want to come along.

Dave.

Just a thought, but i think you would get a larger number of people that will DEFINATELY go, if it was on a weekend. I know that a mid-week booking will have more available dates, but however many people say they will go, you can knock 25% off that to start with. Or am i just being synical ? Plus folk have to try and get a day off work.
As i said, just a thought, but i would definately go if it were a weekend.

weekend will be more expensive and less avaible... thats when the racers are running!

I'm up for option 1, 2 or even 3 if it comes to it!

As previously mentioned, weekend dates are very difficult to get and are prohibitively expensive. I have seen weekend dates available at other circuits at ?250.00 per person. Passengers are allowed but will have to pay a small fee to cover insurance.

Available dates are as follows.

July, 1st, 2nd, 8th, 12th to 16th, 19th to 22nd, and 26th to 30th.

August, 2nd to 5th, 9th to 12th, 16th to 20th, and 23rd to 26th.

The only thing that I really must insist on is that when we are all happy with the date, you must all call the track day company and leave a reasonable deposit. I have organised days in the past and not taken deposits, then lost money because people don't turn up. I will of course provide everyone with full contact details once the date is agreed.

They have even offered us a deal for 20 cars minimum at ?130.00 with exclusive use of the track if we so desire. Personally I still think that we should go with the option of allowing other cars there and showing them how minis can go and handle.

It is well worth taking a day off work (even if you're only staying at home lol). The trackday events are great fun and useful to explore the strengths and weaknesses of car and driver. The best thing of all with this type of event is that it's "open pitlane" so that you can be in and out all day, without the worry of missing your alloted session.

Yep, camping is free and at the circuit, with shower and toilet facilities, and hopefully a pub nearby.

Sounds like a plan. They have also offered the use of their mobile rolling road too if we want it.

It is always good fun to come up against other stuff. Given that mine is a race car, at the last track day event I went to at Oulton Park, during the drivers meeting people in seriously quick road cars were told that if they saw a blue mini in their mirrors you may as well move over because it WILL pass you. And sure enough it did, lol. As you quite rightly say, they have a multitude of excuses. There are also cars there which will pass the minis without a problem, like the warrender evo running 450 bhp and the race Vectras. I even held off one of the new BMW M3 CSL's at oulton for 3 laps until i let him pass.

However, on a more serious note, to those who have never been on track and who may be a little worried. Just remember there is no need to drive above your ability, free instruction is available on request and nobody will be having a go or laughing at you because you are slower. Each car and driver have paid for the privilage of driving around the circuit at whatever pace they wish. With practice you WILL get quicker and smoother and you will finally have the opportunity to properly test out all of the modifications that have taken many of you so many hours to carry out.

I can honestly tell all of you that haven't done trackdays before, the bug will bite and you will want to do them again and again.

Yeah pub bit would be good if we had it on a friday, have all day racing then down the pub for the excuses and camp at the circuit!

Im going to be cracking on with my car so i can get it there.

Do they have to have current mot etc or have been scrutinised?

Thinking about having a holiday up there and making the trackday part of it, so it's unlikely we'll be taking the 8 port.

However we do have the sportpack cooper and the mini one (provided we don't get abuse for owning a new mini)

Looking forward to it :)

As far as I'm aware the cars must be road legal and will not be scrutineered. However, if you don't have a current mot then just talk to me and I know I can still get you on track without a problem as long as it's in a safe and useable condition.

My only aim for the trackday events is to make sure that we all have fun. It's not a case of saying no to anyone, we just need to apply common sense when it comes to the safety of you and everyone around you.

They will happily accept race prepped cars with no registration documents. Mine after all is a race car but also has an MSA logbook, which I have never been asked to produce.

The basic guidlines are.

1 No open wheeled cars, like single seaters.
2 No cars with open exhaust pipes, noise regs are to be adhered to for every circuit although most will pass with a little temporary modification if required.
3 All cars to be of sound construction and in good overall condition.
4 No passengers under 16 and a maximum of one passenger at any time per car.
5 you must hold a full driving licence and produce it on the day.

Other than that just get out there and have a laugh.

Dave.

I'll be coming along, for the track-day.

I am having a '1380 tvrDave Special' as specially built for the day, so if you see a red MiniCooper with L's then don't worry its only me *wink*. Proceed with caution, its my first track-day. hehe.

ThomasP
