A real nice to have and probably a rather contentious request. Would it be possible for the "Post New Topic" button to automatically generate a pop up that says have you used the search function? and preferably a link to the search function. As I said a contentious request, but with the amount of new posts it's getting harder to filter out the good stuff from the "I know this has been posted 100s of times before but I can't be arsed to search stuff". I'll put my soap box away now, as I've probably offended a couple of hundred new members.

Not sure why but I keep failing to find stuff on here and having to ask. I'm not sure if there is an art to finding stuff with the inbuilt search function. Usually have no problems with search functions / search engines.

Maybe you guys have a point about new people not searching but what would be the solution? If for every repeat post on a common subject a mod was to reply "Use the search", lock, and then a week later delete the post I am sure a lot of new members to the board would feel unwelcome and would probably not return.

Most of the answers are out there, I don't know why people have issues with the search as since Alex re-vamped it I have found it excellent to use. It was also quite amusing to get some "woo"'s but alas we no longer get those now!

Your quite right Tom, the reason I like it here is because it's a one stop information shop with nice folk.

I have recently been involved with trying to get a electronic "knowledge base" running at work and it is a very difficult thing to do. All it takes is for somebody to use a non std TLA and the whole thing falls apart!!

Guess a search function on a diverse web site is going to be near impossible to get 100%
