Forgotten more than most ever know

Vegard,

both heads that I have used were fitted with offset exhausts. So, there is no one around who is willing to fit inserts. Actually, the first head that got destroyed was machined for inserts but two machined grooves broke into water jacket and the machine shop did not want to proceed. I have bought a MPi Mini head from germany and also a set of 29 mm Rimflos. This will find its way into my Mini but who knows when. I am hoping to get the car back together to visit the IMM2007 in Roskilde. It is quite possible that I´ll just fit the current head. Thanks to the wife tha spare time is limited...

Fab, I would use 7 mm stems and forget the 8 mm version. I have Avonbar Phase 2 cam, Minispares 180 lbs springs and 1,5 rockers. The last years the boost setting was at conservative 1 bar.

well I'll order 7m stem,
180 springs are not that stong so shouldn't be the prob, teh phase 2 having 255 inlet it should be safe even with 1.5's.
perhaps are you using a std mety 0.25 a/r? at 15 psi it make a lot of tip and so heat.it could benefit from a larger hsg to release more power and decrease pressure /heat on the exhaust valve.

Minispares do stock 37,7mm valves. C-AHT110. I did try 37,7/31 valves in a head yesterday, and there was no chance they'd fit. Are you sure your head is not offset Fab?

I could squeeze in 37,2 and 29,4 and 36,6 and31 but not 37,7/31. Impossible.

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

Well, T3 has been sold and smaller Mitsubishi turbo´s been waiting for years to be fitted. Besides, getting older means that I no longer need to drive fast. You know, reflexes get slower and slower and kids complain if the noise in the car gets louder. So it is more than likely that I will lower the boost with the smaller turbo ... at least for the time that I get everything set up.

If you've seen Calvers Mini Expurt mag there is a bit in there somewhere where i think it sugests he had a head that was offset from the factory. might be my dodgey memory but thats how i remember it, i don't have the mag to hand at the moment but will check when I do.
