if was down to "seeing what the car will do" then they would enter the right class. they dont because they feel they are just pushing the rules not breaking them. thats what motorsport is all about.

unless the BMC enforces some proper regulations there will always be a massive grey area and obvious cheats.

The british mini club would have to bring in proper regulations and check every car, but they dont have the money, the time or the experience. instead its all done as fun.

its just a shame some people dont understand the term "road legal" and read it as "race car with number plates and road tyres"

road legal means just that, road legal. if its not MOT'd etc then it aint road legal

next year i'm fitting a turbo V8 and a carbon fibre shell

then you would be in class I, the mis fits class

class D is not any car with a turbo in, its road legal, forced induction a series

you seem to be forgetting this is actually a show and doesnt mean anything at all, theres no cash prizes and if people want to cheat its up to them, but its a shame that they do

turbo shed- how many miles do you do a year in your car? and just how do you get an mot on it with all the rust holes?

mine gets trailered to avon out of choice for the piece of mind and ease of carrying tools (that many people have borrowed in the past), i drove it there once for a rwyb, and blew the head gasket. The hassle of getting the rac towing it home means that i doubt i will ever drive it there again

at avon i run the car as stripped out as i can, but fully road legal with all the necersarys on the car, i always run the car at retro cars exactly as it is normally and have run a 13.6 like that, at avon the passenger seat is removed and then all the trim that i can pull out is taken out on sat night in desperation

i dont know who you were having a dig at with your earlier comments, however my car is used in the good weather (again, sorry if that makes me a twat and a cheat) in the summer, and usually on weekends (no not because its a weekend car, but because i used to work away mon to thur night) and still cover over 3000 miles a year in the way you see it at avon, but with a passenger seat fitted

i occasionally use it for work and go to the super market in it

this year i hope to make it faster, lighter, more impractical, do even more miles in it, and again trailer it to avon and take it up the track knowing that it is fully legal for class D

i think Bud666 you are correct and as i was 4th place so it would seem all the main players were playing fair. but consider next year. how would you feel if you got deprived of a trophy by one of the many race cars/none road legal/cheats?

Nic, I'm with you on this one ... even though the strip is not my natural habitat.

I will be taking the Candice's car to Avon this year if I can, with a tent and a boot full of proper beer (probably wrong but as most blocks in general drink larger rather than proper ale I guess it will be in short supply ... how many pint bottles can you fit in the boot of a Mini ...LOL).

Closest the car will get to the track is parked outside though .... can't be bothered to fit the slicks and carbon shell for the weekend to have take it all off again by Monday morning .... the paint will never be dry in time ..... LOL

Seriously though I am a little lost with all this.....

I didn't think it carried any prize and if no prize it must just be for fun so why are people so emotional over it?????

Surely if you get beaten by a car that is not in the spirit of the class then you will just forget that car ever raced that day in your own mind .... if you beat them you'll feel even more smug in the beer tent...

If it is really that much of a problem with 'cheats' people need to stand up and be counted by the BMC and tell them straight ..... make people play by the rules or else people won't want to come again. In my experience most people respond best when hit in their most sensitive part ... the wallet!!!

Tom's idea of running a table for the TM crew is a good one.

I am sorry for piping up but this sort of nonsense is the reason I stopped racing as it took all the fun out of it, especially when everybody else, including other cheats, were at each other all the time and I finsihed 2nd in that championship with the ONLY car built to the sprit of the regs let alone the letter of them!!!

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

I've never competed at Avon, yet *wink*, but i was always under the impression that Class D, which is the one i watch most (mainly due to knowing a few guys who take part) was, as has been said for road legal, forced induction A series minis with steel sheels. I was under the impression that cars were checked on the sat to ensure they conformed with the rules, however it seems that is not the case? or are we saying cars 'change' from sat to sun? and BMC take no notice?
I find that quite dissapointing to be honest. :(
As for class I, its a total crock of shite in my view, thats one class, that should be split into road / non road legal, or, whisper this!! road legal only!!!!
So what if it pisses the Edwards family off, they only make up what?, 5% of class I.

As for the suggestion of a 'Turbominis' cup. Excellent idea! To be presented to the quickest member from here on sunday, who's car met (and ran in) Class D.
To be kept for one year, with associated bragging rights!!
Win it three times on the trot and you keep it.

^^^^ I hear that ^^^^

Bragging rights heaven. A single TM trophy, which must be returned in the weeks before Avon, and will sit atop the headgasket bar, and be presented to Nic, opps, I mean Jim, oops, I mean Jon, oops, I mean Tim, ooops, I mean superadam when they win; this allows each of us to individually and seperately inspect (casually) each others cars...
Run slicks, and you're out of the running LOL!

:)

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

even on the back? *happy*

We could make up a fairly simple set of rules for a TM cup *smiley*

And i think to fund the first year a £1 entry? or maybe every year and the proceeds to the TM server?

£1's not the end of the day and every little helps *smiley*

Just a thought

Sounds good to me, even if I can't win it.

Who was running slicks? Usually you find people running them on the Saturday when it doesn't count, then put road tyres on for the event on Sunday.

Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

Yeah, you have to go through the 0898 t-u-r-b-o-m-i-n-i number to start the claims process. Calls cost 38p/min and you'll be on there at least 4 minutes. If an irishman answers, put the phone down and try again later, kind of affair...

is that cup a good idea? if there was to ever be another year like 2006 where many people didnt run and for what ever reason i ended up winning, i would imagine that id end up loosing the tm cup

what else could we have?
and i think it should be for something other than winning so everyone can have a chance

(hmmm most items stolen, whilst drunk on dodgems cup??)

I don't follow you Nic????

One thing is for sure - you have to be a 110% recognised member of TurboMinis; and pre-register on the site beforehand to be 'in'....

Hopefully Jimbo will start preparing his second 16v engine in the back with two weeks before the event in 2007. This should still allow a good chance of the 'sprit of the event' award, as it'll be another 48-hr solid stint before turning up with eyes like two piss-holes in the snow late saturday afternoon LOL!
