s discs and reverse rims cannot be illegal and they were supplied by the factory Traffic police aren't that educated in the rules and regs of times gone by and only really worry about today (and the ones they make up for a bit of a luagh!!). By todays construction and use rules it would be illegal so most coppers will see it that way. Remember we live in Britain, a country where your guilty to proven inocent for all driving offences!!! It would be up to you to prove, to a courts satisfaction, that they were as factory spec. If you got a really grumpy judge then your liekly to be told "that was a Cooper S, your car is not a Cooper S". By that time it will have cost you hundreds, probalby thousands by the time your hit with all the costs and fees for your own legal representation. I am not 100% sure what tyre size was fitted to the Cooper S but I am fairly sure it was narrower than most of the current 165s (overall width wise) as all the Cooper S's I have seen with original spec wheels and tyres on have had the full tread inside the arches. My own S was a gravel spec rally car and ran 5" wide wheels so needed, and raced with, grp2 arches on. Every day is a school day ...........

But, the original S wheels aren't reverse rims. That's why the thread of the tyre is inside the arch. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

For group 2's i'd recommend somerford, they fit perfectly and were supplied really well finished. Are they available now? They haven't been for a couple of years, but the old ones were great. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

cooper and S models came with 3.5" rims and 4.5" rims as standard, but you could get the reverse rim as an optional extra. reverse rims are 4.5" but with more offset.

Your right, so to recap: reverse rims and drums are OK as are s wheels and discs, just not reverse rims and s discs unless you have arches. On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:

would it be the worst chrime for me to run 145/70/10 on my reverse rims & s-disks & just a chrome deluxe trim, or would it affect the handling/grip, i quite like the way my mini drives on the wheel & tyre combo i have, i think i'll get some group 2's to be safe but if it looks cack (to me) with arches i'll move up to archs & 6"wine alloys i think SKYLINES ARE LIKE CLITS, EVERY FLANGE SEEMS TO HAVE ONE: see this sticker on my silvia

Yep, any visible tread when viewed from above the arch is 100% illegal

That will depend on the offset of the wheel but I have 13x6s under grp2's and it's all legal so long as I run the trim strip on them....... Every day is a school day ...........
