roger there are many ning nang rolling road peeps companys out there i would not take a lawn mower to RR

their good are curing and sorting you pocket but not the engine

in short they havent got a clue 95% of them

I know .... I can think of a couple of hand ... why I stick to Mech Repairs in Cheltenham for A-series stuff .... a needle modifier par excellance!!!

I'd have thought that even the worst of them wouldn't gloss over Det' ... christ you'd hear it before you'd got into 3rd gear ...... They'd still be able to see the car as the reverse lights came on ...LOL

They're going to have a look tomorrow to see if it does it on the rolling road.

Apparently it didn't on the last run.

Can anyone describe the soud of detonation accuratley, just to be sure that it is, actually detting?

The noise that I get, as best as I can describe it is...

A missfire that happens internally. It's not really a metallic ping, as I have seen described before. But more like a tutting noise (as if the engine is dissaproving). It happens at anything from 2000 to 3200 RPM and not allways when on full boost.

Is this detonation? If it's not, then I will look like a complete fool.

i remember pinking sounding like the igniter on a gas hob...
although i thought det was inaudible, but pinking was?

i managed to melt the pistons on my 1.2 Astra when i was 18 due to not knowing what the ticking noise was and why it wouldn't go over 70mph on the way back from bristol. did it to my first turbo lump aswell, but that was cos the actuator pipe fell off, thought it went a bit better *wink*

To hear Det underload you need Det Cans (a electronic or maechanical sthethascope(sp)).

You won't feel det while driving.

It is not a misfire - if the engine is misfireing it is unlikly to be Detting!

Hence I have posted above is it detting or is the engine misfiring.

BTW pinking is det, but people typically seperate to two!

Can turbos backfire out of the Carb? it sounds like your describing that! When i had the probs with the dizzy it backfired through the carb sounding like a tutting noise!

1/4 Mile 14.3secs 96Mph Terminal 10psi of boost.

It definaley missfires and jolts the whole car.

After talking to Benross, I'm not sure if the sound that I am hearing is detonation. Its not fast, just more like...

tut... tut, tut... tut, tut, tut etc
