all ill do to it is have cd player and maybe some 6x9 speakers just to kill the bordam of driving somthing a bit dull!
at the moment i dont have any sort of music in the mini and i never miss it to tell the truth as i just love the sound of it and enjoy driving it!
ill then have the mini for summer fun and tracks etc and a corsa or polo or what ever as a winter long jorny car etc.
is a mk2 golf classed as a classic car? if so i may get one and insure it with footman james as there good for me at the moment with my mini! £625 with all mods declared and 3 points (doh!).
not sure if i could live with a corsa though lol
what are mk2 golf like reliablity wise and running costs? also what liters is there?

cheers

I bought a Honda Civic 1.6 16 1990 on a G plate last summer, cost me £500 has done 150k and still pulls like a train!

Best thing is it costs me £600 a year to insure and I am also 19 with 2 yrs NCB, trust me once you try it you will love it.

There is a red one on autotrader at the moment for £795 or go on to crx-uk or www.4guk.co.uk and have a look at the cars for sale there.

Golfs are great!!!! Only problem for you is that they are popular so not a 2p car to buy!!!

On the upside they drive well, look good, aren't french (which is important for a car IMHO) and the parts are cheap!!!

VW's are the best bet for a daily as far as I am concerned.

Engine sizes for the Mk2 are;

1.3
1.6 (driver is basically a Gti with a carbed 1.6)
1.8 carb
1.8 GTi 8v
1.8 Gti 16v

1.9 diesel .... which if your after economical motoring is the best bet .. not the most fun *wink*

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Stick to Jap. You'll pay over the odds for German which is no more reliable than Jap (less so in many cases). Parts for Euro cars generally cost more than Jap.

Ask yourself why sooooo many taxis are Japanese cars. Cheap to maintain/fix, reliable to run.

A Mitsubishi Colt would tick your boxes. Cheap as chips, reliable, and there's a good choice (check out the 'Trader).

Gotta agree that Toyotas etc are on par with the Germans but not as pricey. My sister's Yaris was the most reliable car we've ever had in the house. Mind you we have an Alpha, Renault and Rover at the moment so thats not hard.

I'm glad you can get parts for Jap cars at sensible prices .... I wish I could!!!

A mate of mine had a simple engine fault and ended up scrapping the 1997 car due to the cost of the parts!!! Same problem with a Golf would have cost about £60 to fix from GSF!!!

a 1.6 16v civic would cost me £1188 to insure!
that a quick quote from confused which does a load of componys.
a golf seems to be a bit pricy to buy as im after somthing that would be 'ready to go' for around £400-600 and the on top of that insure for around £600 or lower.
may have to be a 1.2 corsa! or even a 1.0 corsa (could i bear that)???lol

trya 1.8TD mondeo mine was £300 to buy and about hte same to insure. even wit hthe boost upped to 19psi and fueling mod's it stil returned 100 miles to a tenner.

1.7TD corsa or astra would be a good bet too, the isuzu engines are really strong . seen one with my own eyes that clocked 500k miles in a taxi , on the origional engine and turbo.

turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

Personally I would steer clear of the 1.25 Fiesta's, had to drive one as i hire car and they are piss slow for a 1.25, the Micra 1.2 I drove after was much quicker (for the same size engine)! :)

I know most people don't rate French cars but, R5 Turbo was 100% reliable never had to touch a thing on the engine(for maintenance anyway *wink*), also had a Saxo for 3 years covered 50000 miles and only changed tyres and brakes!

i have got 3 points! boody traffic light camara, i still think it was on amber, o well to late now!

iv just got a quote on a renalt 19 rtd that my mum currently drives and that would be £830, which could be good considering we already have one lol.
dont know what my mum would think though!
tom ill look into the 1.0 12v corsa. i bet i could get one for around £400 do you think?

all these quotes are of confussed.com so there only a rough idea of what it could be, but just to get me in the right ball park!

the old bubble micras are ok. Ultra realiable and proven to be faster than a 200+bhp 20v turbo leon. *wink*

Very cheap to buy and insure too.

The only thing I'd do if I had to drive a micra all the time is tint the windows (limo style) so no one could see in! Lol

Try HIC insurance there reasonable, and www.quotelinedirect.co.uk.
