if you look for an external wastegate from the likes of an audi s2, audi100 ect with the 5cyl turbo they have a small 30mm external wastegate and the spring can be changed iirc

also if a 38mm aftermarket wastegate is to big could a 30mm flange be made for example to bolt the wastgate onto? would this have the same effect as a 30mm valve?

not really, the issue is basically the area that is exposed as the valve opens. The larger the valve the bigger the transition of flow from closed to open, rather than a nice progressive change relative to what is needed.

A god quality 38mm may well work fine, and work very well. But there would be a small element of risk. Worst case it might spool slightly slower, and boost may oscillate a little

But I have seen people using cheap 60mm gates on 2.0 engines and they seemed to work ok. IMO unless you're near 1000bhp with a single blower, 60mm is huge !!

If you really want an external gate, just try it and see. More than likely it will be fine.

mines a 38. from the research ive done. bigger the better seems to be the thing.

obv for a mini with 1.3 liters i think a 38 is about right

13.95 1/4 mile on a 2.95 fd. Carnt be that hard to beat!

yeah, good point. i was thinking of the smaller flange.

ive had a quick look and the smallest wastegate i can find would be the 35mm one.

seen them but theyd stick a t3 down and out further, probably make it hit the bulkhead alot more and piss the oil return off

About to turn my attention to another k1100 manifold.

engine capacity, 1188cc, 16v and rev it till it stops making power, so about 8500rpm.

Will a ported gt2056 wastegate be able to peg this back to around 15psi or will it likely struggle at the higher revs?

Just more of a faff with downpipes etc, but if it needs to be done it needs to be done.

Thanks.
