im planning on de-seeming my mini....once i have masterd welding and body work stuff!

weld it up from the inside and you'll be ok, mine was a pain as the back is made from several panels, hence the amount of filler

do you mean weld it all the way up on the inside, then chop it all off, then weld the outside up?
or cut 6" then weld, then another 6" then weld etc etc?

cheers

the engine is staying as it was, hopefully ill get some new valves so i can get rid of my 1 low compression cylinder

yeah, weld up from the inside 6" at a time, im thinking my mate did 6", missed 6", then grinded the bits back that he welded and then did the bits in between

haha good point iain

i did it with a compressor, some huge beast that i bought from machine mart, it seemed like a wise investment when im looking at painting a few vehicles, hopefully ill be good at the top coat, but if it all goes wrong i can rub it down and try again

more priming done today, inside is all pretty much sorted, ill attempt underneath tomorrow

Roger- Ive used a normal suction on first off, and have been experimenting with a gravity fed one (1.4 needle i think)
I was at the local motor factors on fri and they had a miniture gravity fed gun for £10 (0.8) its great for doing in the boot and some areas inside

Finshed off the underside today, well almost, i just need to get round one rear arch, do the sills, and drivers front arch with the stone chip (and then paint under there, possibly at the weekend)

So your not using anything exotic then.

The only reason I ask is that I am always interested in what other people use, never to old to pick up a tip!

I normally have used a 2.2mm tipped Clarke HVLP gun for the primer/surfacer/high build that I use as it needs to go on quite thick (cheating I know but hey ......). Then I have 3 1.5mm normal guns, 2 suction (1 only ever gets used for the clear coat) and 1 gravity which as you say is very useful, particularly when you have to lay the gun over to get into somewhere awkward. None of these are expensive and I have just collected them over the years. I also have a touch up gun similar to what you described (although mine is 1mm nozzle) but suction (can't beat a bit of suction can you ....... sorry .. OT) which is great for detail work.

I am currently toying with the idea of getting a couple of new guns mainly so that we we go properly waterbourne I can get the fluid tips and air caps easily to suit. Also would like a HVLP for applying the colour and clear as they are just so much nicer to use in a cramped enviroment.

I am also of the mind that you don't need a Devilbiss GTi (although my clear coat gun is a Devilbiss SRi), SATA 90 or similar to get a decent finish but if I was doing it for a living then I would consider them a good investment.

I don't know if you have heard of Kestral equipment but it's a fairly reasonable copy of the SATA stuff, all accpet the price.

hmm to be honest i just thought that i could buy all the gear to spray a couple of cars for the price it would cost me for one pro job.

To be honest if i cock it all up i can just keep trying, and ill probably just end up using the one gun, and swear/flat/buff it up as required

some scum pinched it, that was pre-turbominis days though. It was only a knackered 998, but it was lovely and waiting for the mg metro engine i had in the garage. It would of evolved into what my red one has become.

Actually it wouldnt of, Ive built my red one in anger at its disapearance, hence why its quick and has lots of goodies on it
