I know this is very sad ........simon who used to run or maybe still does run viz, lived round the corner from my shop in jesmond, he is into mini`s thats how i got to know him , didn`t know he was any one well known or anything.
He did a feature on sudent life in jesmond , which is the big student area in newcastle.
Anyway on the map in viz he marked my shop and put it down as the porn place ( pre internet) and watch out for owner in his turbo mini , fastest paperlad on tyneside.

Very sad isn`t it.

Forgotten more than most ever know

If you don?t know the deck height assume the worst. Std bore engine has roughly 4 cc?s of cylinder volume for each 1 mm (0,040") that the piston is below the deck. So for 5,25 cc the pistons should be something like .050" down the bore. I doubt that. I?d recommend that you re-calculate with .015-.020" to be safe until you really measure the actual value.

I usually use 3,5 cc volume for combined head gsaket + ring land volume, this way the possible error gives me too high a CR compared to actual compression.

Alex - just checked one of my spare 'turbo' engines. The pistons aren't machined so are a bit tricky to measure the height from the deck to the squish band - so i took three measurements.
0.1
0.4
0.25
hence, taking averages, you can assume the pistons are 0.25mm down, and on a 1275, this is just shy of 1cc...

The 'turbo' pistons defiantely sit higher than the nat asp ones...

Bore 70.61mm
Stroke 81.4mm

Gasket Volume 4.00cc
Ring land Volume 0cc
Piston Volume 12.00cc
Head Chamber Vol 30cc
Deck Volume 1cc

I make that Compression Ratio 7.78:1

so I am probably between 7:1 and 8:1.. which is fine as I'm happy with 8:1 amyway *happy*
