Behind the Crank pulley bolt there is a locktab, a thin washer that can be folded up against the bolt to prevent it coming undone, if present this needs be folded back.

If it is folded up against the bolt it can stop the socket going on.

feel all round the nut to make sure no bits of lock tab are still present .if not .. its all down to muscle power ... a long bar and plenty of brut strength is required. someone standing on the brakes will its in gear might help

Everyone knows that instructions only have to be read if the thing doesn't work....

Just got some wood and taped it off.
My cam is a rubber belt drive.
how many miles is it till u have to change it. plus it has greace round it. i know thats normal for a chain, but is that normal for rubber belt drive.
Looks like im gonna have to take the gear box mount off from the car, as for the life of me i cant line up the 2 holes on the gearbox mount, i got the top one in, but the other end wont line up, and the bottom one is way off :( tried pulling the engine over with bit of wood, but not go. anyone come across this and was able to sort it ? thanks

oil kills belts, so get it changed before it snaps :) as for the mounts, just persevere.

engine mounts can be a nightmare, welding the nuts on before hand can help, but only if theyre carefully lined up, the last 'captve' nut mount i got from minispares didnt, meant i had to elongate a hole in the subby to get them in.

have fun!!

The last time I change my clutch oil seal, it took two long crowbars to get the engine mount to line up, one pushing it sideways, the other pushing it down.

You're going to have to get some levers in there.

ive had to 'press' engines into the subframe (with ratchet straps/mate stood on engine) due to misaligned 'captive' nuts.

a royal pita!!

The reason I always use genuine mounts .... never had a problem with them.

I don't like the captive nut mounts for lots of reasons but the main one is that if they loosen you loose the bolt and all location! With the genuine mounts and the bolts dropped in from the top then if they loosen the nut falls of but the bolts still locate.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...
