I have not been in an Elise, but had a few laps round Cadwell as a passenger in an Exige, if I could afford one I'd have one tomorrow, simple as that!

Exige is hardcore but will try to throw you off the road due to very track oriented suspension set up and tyres on anything but super smooth surfaces. K series is good - until you drive a toyota engined car.lol! I've said it before if it was my money - and I've driven all the cars many times and it was to be a road car + track - vx220 turbo all the way - no contest. If it was a track/weekend toy only 340R - they are sublime and massively different to an Elsie , lovely damping on the road with phenominal response and feel in the corners - let down only by a major rush to market cutting some corners off "finishing" the car
If Carling made Mini engines

having owned both ??????? personal experience how can this be misguided ? just my opinion. used to leave the elise outside, it would rain and run into the engine bay and the car would not start ! it was an x reg one so not 1970s i had. The car looked real cool, but i didnt feel cool in it ???? kinda felt like Dave says in his reply On 1st of Mar, 2007 at 12:47pm Ben H said:
Richie, I don't know where you get your info from, but it is seriously missguided. The Elise is not perfect, but even if there is a problem they are cheep to repair. In three years and nearly 40k miles I think I replaced 1 wheel bearing, the radiator fan, the clutch hose (upgraded to braided) and a couple of ball joints. I don't think you can compare the problematic 1970's Lotus' with the Elise. Plus who cares, when you drive the Elise you can forgive it so much because it is so much fun. every one who likes driving should own an elise at least once IMO. Edited by Richie on 1st Mar, 2007.

and as for cheap parts....BEN U MUST BE LOADED !!!!! Well I'm not loded, but Elises are very cheep to run if you don't deal with lotus direct. All the parts I replaced we much cheaper than equivelent parts for a Mondeo. There is a perception that Lotus parts are expensive, and they are from Lotus. Shop around. It is one of the cheepest cars I have run, 40mpg, all the service parts are standard rover. Even the MMS pads which were unavailable for a while only cost £80 for a set of fronts. These last twice as long as pads on a normal car so very cheep, I only changes them once after about 30k miles and I don't know how long they had been in before then. Check out http://www.eliseparts.com/shop/index.php I used them for most stuff, good service and good prices. To answer a few other questions, Yes it was my daily drive for over 3 years. I had about a 40mile round trip every day and it was great apart from on very cold days when the windscreen would freeze on the inside and outside. I think a hard top in the winter would have been better, but it was too expencive to justify. I took the Elise to Le Mans one year and it was fab. To be fare though Wil had the bulk of my luggage in his Scooby. If you want a weekend away there is plenty of room for 2 though, just pack wisely and travel with the hood up. I have to agree with JohnK though the VX220 turbo is a very attractive car with proper performance. Still when I am older and cars are band I can tell my son that I once drove a Lotus..... good thing about the elan is all the running geaer is astra GTE, except rear breaks which are pontiac :( they suck the most. so anyone wanting spares rather than go direct to lotus for the sake of the emblem being stamped on get ure bits from Vauxhall (at the end of the day thats who they are anyho.....According to Clarksen lmao)
