I remember my first car... one of the old boxy nissan micra's. Only a 1 ltr but went like stink- until the engine exploded that is! And then I found out that it had been quite significantly overbored lol. Had to pay over a grand for that, and that was 2002-3 I think. Aint too bad now on my focus, but still a bit steep til I reach 25.

There is no sense crying over every mistake- you just keep on trying til you run out of cake.

adding parent to your own policy does lower it by quite a bit for a 17 year old, add your mum/dad as a named driver on a quote to see the difference

yer if you have it as your own policy then add a driver (being mum or dad) and see what it does.
so when online it asks how many drivers you say 2, you being the policy holder and car owner and your mum or dad as a second driver.
worth a try.
you will get a NCB if all goes to plan that way.

give footman james a ring mate
they wont give you a quote online but they will give you one when you ring them.
i payed £525 first year 6000mile limited tpft. on a 1987 998cc mayfair and i was 17

then second year (18 years old) £625 unlimited miles,NCB bonus all mods declared (fully adjustable suspension, alloy wheels, 4 pot calipers, stage 1 kit) and 3 points on my licenes. 998cc 1987 mayfair.

i recon thats good for me to be honest.
they said it will be the same if i was to change to a 1275 mini in september when its due. but ill have a look around like HIC and adrian flux i think next time round as they go down after a few NCB iv heard.

Just given adrian flux a ring about my proposed suspension mods (lowered an inch and 1.5 degrees negitave camber all round) and they said it wouldn't change my premium. woo! and I'm 19.

May as well waste the insurance companies time, as they waste enough of yours when you have to make a claim!

My brother had a 998 declaring hi-lows, alloys etc and he was paying about 800 quid (I think) on his own policy.

He was 18 when he started the policy, and it made ALOT of difference as they wacked up the price when he got a quote at 17.

Best bet , do your lessons if your nearer to 18 than 17 when you pass wait the extra time, the money you save you could buy your self a nice set of wheels. *wink*

if you do go with footman james then i dont think they give you discount for doing pass + but ask anyway as they may of changed.

just ring them up and say that your planning on buying a mini and give details of what it would be (i highly recomend a bog standerd one) and ask how much etc it will be.
im sure alot of people do that when they are thinking of buying a car etc, i know i would!
