Where in your opinion would you start tuning, is there much room for improvement to the ports/throats or will some sprightlier camshafts do the trick? i presume the std cams are around 252 duration?

Thanks - I think a lot of gains will be realised by correctly developing the head. I have a sliced 8 valve head in for porting now - basically to be ported to the extreme to see what the casting will give. Std cams in the 8v are stated as 285 degs - basically same profile as the hot 16v engines, the engine could obviously take more - at the moment I'm concentrating on the headwork.

who was it had a 285 sort of cam in a fuel inj mini , i think he showed the curve the other day and a vid on the dyno ,,white car i tihnk , i remember it was around the 100 bhp mark ,it would be interesting to see the two curves one on top of the other to compare a mini head with the stock bm ?

a useful comparison ... more cc, slightly milder cam but a fully worked "group A" head.

I am trying to work out, approximately obviously, what the output would be with 1380cc / 1400cc (assuming same VE etc.)

If my own calculations hold any water there is massive potential in the 8v head .... especially with a decent blow job.
