Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

if they are all roughly even then i wouldnt have said that it was causing any problems that would cause the the compression to drop so far.

i would expect no rings to be in there at all for it to drop that far! although i've never had an engine that bad.

I'd put a D.T.I on each rocker and check them... I'd set all the valve clearances to zero to get rid of any inaccuracies first. It should be fairly obvious from that. *wink*

a LIL fishing village on the coast - Newcastle Upon Tyne

make sure you drop the oil out before you invert it *wink* i take it all the springs on the head are ok and all the valves seat correctly ? i know u said you had the head off etc. i also take it there was no holes in the top of the piston ? or signs of detonation ?

EDIT i have had blocks crack between pots and cause similar symptoms, but you would have seen this and oil/water would be contaminated.

the pistons are in perfect condition, no signs of any detonation and there is only a slight wear lip.

One thing i had observed was that on number 2 piston there was some what looked like very light scratching around the edge of the dish, infront of the pushrod holes. in a concentrated area. the rest of the piston was perfect though.

I think it has only come to light after i flooded the engine with fuel so is not visible on this photo taken last year. the oil was changed after that incident.

I managed to throttle it up for the first time today and the rings appear ok along with the turbo. Still no compressission though on the offending cylinder - 100 psi at idle. 40 at crank over

Cylinder leakage test? Bolt the head back on ( no rockers or manifolds required) and you will get an immediate answer where the problem is!

Why bother with all this fucking around when you know that there's something wrong. Tear it down and rebuild it properly.
You could have done this three times instead of all this maybe and possibly shit.

Because I wouldn't mind knowing whats wrong with it before I rebuild it. It was always going to get a rebuild

Well, if you tear it down, you'll see it instantly won't you?

Vegard, your right.

rip it apart.

there could be many problems and some can only be found by pulling it apart.

I will be tearing it down when I have the time and money. As it runs showing no massive fault, I will stick it back under the bench and forget about it.

My guess is it can only be rings as with no push rods there is still very little comprssion.

I shall leave this thread alone now.
