I'm starting to scare myself with how much of my A-levels I remember and that I was going to take physics at uni - glad I didn't now I just re-read what I've written and can see why its confusing. Don't want it to look like I'm argueing with Dave though - I'm really not

So, I can still not see why an electron beam (in a CRT) which can be bent by a magnet will not qualify as an answer to joey's question.Regards

because it doesnt fire a substance, but a wave - ie electromagnetic radiation in the form of light rather than substance of pure electrons. its all about wave partical duality which i really dont wish to explain right now - its too much first thing on a monday morning

How is that question of any use when trying to determine IQ? They may as awell ask ""who wrote this question?"" for as use it would be.

Anyway if TM don't know thw answer straight away, it's not worth knowing.

Would the North Pole qualify as the answer.
The only other thing I can think of is Nic's "animal magnetisim to the ladies"

The electron beam emitted from a CRT is bent using magnets, and where it impacts with the screen it reacts with a special substance which then emits light.
However it doesn't count as a material, because you'd be hard pressed to make a car out of electron beams *wink* (ie it has no real physical substance)

There is no sense crying over every mistake- you just keep on trying til you run out of cake.

What do you reckon?
What the relevance is to a Mensa test is beyond me!
What were some of the other questions Joey? Were they all as esoteric as this one?

Dave
