apparently you can get good wireless alarms these days for the house. This allows you to run a PIR etc in the garage, shed etc without running wires about evelywhere. You can then part set the system so if you are in the house, the garage is still active. Then put a very loud sounder in the garage - we did this at the boatyard and it was like an air raid siren - couldn't stand it for more than a couple of seconds.

Wire in an alarm to the door. It'll be a piece of piss, shouldn't cost much and you would hear it from your house!

You could even rig it so that the alarm sound was "GET YOUR FOOKIN MITTS OFF YOU PIKEY B*STARDS!

i've fitted thousands of those wireless yale alarms, they aint three bad for the price. you can get a stand alone one with a siren, door contact and PIR. works off remote control and the batteries last a good 2 years.
might be able to sort one out at a decent price if you want one.
