ooh, thats a tricky one ric. they all seem pretty good spec for the price.

the GT has got marginally better kit on it (front and rear derailuers, shifters) and it has the shimano hydraulic discs which i personally prefer than the hayes on the others (performance wise thers probably not much in it but the hayes were always a nightmare to service - might be better now thoough)

i think u need to find some shops local to you that sell these and have a look and get a proper feel for them.

miniminor has found you a very well spec-d bike there.

Gets my vote.

mini13 - Kirk Precision god that’s a blast from the past. Can't remember how many cubic metres it took to make one of them. (3-5?) Cool elevated chain stay too.

My mate had one and snapped the rear drop out off it. And Kirk sent him a new frame for free. Unfortunately not a sea water Magnesium special. Gutted.

Apparently it cost them to much to produce.

Retro Ubur Cool mate...

my understanding is the egg beaters on the GT are worth £60 alone, guy i work with swears by them.

SiP: just out of interest why the kona over the specialized?

Sound advice about shops, hopefully going in my lunchbreak tomorrow.

From my experience just from riding a few. Kona's handle sweet as. Nice compact sloping top tube frame design. Which they pioneered. Also looks cool to.

Good reputation to.

Marzocchi front forks also better to. Almost un-bustable

You can upgrade Egg beaters to. Fully titanium...! Nice.

I have ridden my marzocchi fork since 1999 now, and it is still going strong (even if I am way to heavy for it really) , I have ridden about 10000 km on it I guess and I have only changed oil three times and bushings once!

I would say the shimano disc brakes are just as good as the others and the SRAM kit on the GT is pretty nice too.

I still stand behind my choice:)

a LIL fishing village on the coast - Newcastle Upon Tyne

i personally think marzocchi were shite, but thats me. i had a set of PACE mxcd's in the good old days then went to manitou Skareb comps with lock out etc etc. dont go with rim brake setup if you are riding offroad they get clagged up i used to run V brakes which were sweet until they got coated in mud.

also i hate GT bikes never liked em again just preference go with Specialised, Giant, Kona IMHO all of which i have ridden, including the GT bikes.

I snapped the brace on my marzocchi's with not too much effort, which was scarey!!!

Ive got a shimano disk, seems really good, especially for the money.

I was having a look at some Orange bikes for you Ric, but none came into the price range unortunately. Can't beat a UK built bike. *wink*

Cubic metres?

I would have thought cubic miles lol.

They were made (assembled?) close to where I live.

Aparently they used to snap a lot where the rear wheel fixes, usually the deralier mount, aparently a lot of frames found their way out of the scrap bin into employies boots, have seen a few around with cracked rear ends bodged up!

That'll do nicely.

But please take the front chain guard off. They are GAY. And advertise badly set up shifting.

Well done. Enjoy riding it.

£380 and they chucked in a cheapy cycle computer.

I rode it up and down the road by the shop and it felt really nice. So much different to my old bike. I see what everyone means about hydraulic brakes now, tons different to cables. Looking forward to giving it some stick up and down some hills now. *happy*

Just picked it up, can't wait to get home tonight, this afternoon is going to drag.

I bought my multitool to work with me, so i've already lost all the reflectors, the bell and all the stickers. Haven't managed to get rid of the chain guard yet though. A job for tonight...
