Aldershot (we are top of the league, say we are...)

Well have done some more checks this evening, i T-pieced my fuel pressure tester into the tank return, showing about 0.5psi took the fuel cap off and you can see it quite nicely trickling into the tank with enough force to hit the other side of the filler neck. Took it for a spin and the further i drove the pressure seemed to be gradually increasing to a max of 1.5psi then as the car lost all go (always at the exact same spot on my test run) the tank return pipe was still on about 1psi. Pulled over and turned the engine off, took the fuel cap off and fired it back up and again you can see the fuel going back into the tank. Then to be sure everything pump wise was ok, with my pressure tester still connected to the return line. I clamped the return line slightly and the pressure gauge shot up and the car died. (flooded i suppose) Took a while before it would fire up again. Then drove the rest of the way home with no problems.

What do we reckon then sticky needle valve perhaps telling the pressure regulator to turn off?

Just had a thought guys, when i t-pieced my fuel pressure tester inbetween the pump and pressure regulator (tank side of the regulator rather than carb side of the regulator). When the car lost all its go the pressure still went to almost 0. Just had a think, when you short out the oil light and turn the ignition on, so the pump is running when the engine isnt, even though all the fuel is going to the tank return im fairly sure i still had 5psi on my fuel pressure gauge. So surely it shouldnt be normal for the fuel pressure before the regulator to go below 5psi even if its all being returned to the tank?

if the tank/filter blocks then the pressure after the pump and before the regulator will drop even as low as zero.

what fuel filter are you using?

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

pull the return hose off and see what sort of flow is coming out of that.

it wants to be a good stream coming out. Mine was piss poor and after swapping pumps i lost all my fuelling issues!

Well just a progress report...

Its all fixed, i drained the tank and there was loads of crap at the bottom of it to i flushed it through with some clean fuel, then fitted another new fuel pump, replaced the fuel line from the tank to pump and pump to pressure regulator and the problem hasnt occured since!

thanks for all your help and suggestions

safe motoring
