Ok, I was throwing a line, but I've been slapped down.

My Bad.

What i'd have thought would have been WAAAAAAY better, would be to have used the Bini M45 (which has the extra gearbox in the back end for driving a water pump / vacuum pump or somet like that) and utilising this to maybe drive a motorbike alternator via a small adaptor. The higher speed of the SC would have compared well to a motorbike engine rpm.
This would have allowed the engine to be mounted right at the block. AND in a standard round-nose.

Oooh, I REALLY like this idea :)

I was thinking of rear engined kit cars - are there any others?

LOL, yeah - popped over last night!

So, what is it that the extra gearbox drives on the Bini?

Waterpump.

Because I'm actually slowing down the Bini blower to about 110% engine speed on my 998, the standard alternator should be just fine - and it all fits nicely.

So, is it a 1:1 drive ratio? It makes sense to me that it isn't - in that it'd be altered to make up for whatever the standard pump speed would be on the cooper, compared to the actual Supercharger speed?

Well it's not geared in the blower as far as I'm aware.

EDIT: Definately not, just checked.

They probably just use a different pump.

EDIT No. 2 31/08/07 - i was talking bollocks again. It is geared in the blower. The waterpump drives at half engine speed and opposite direction to the input shaft.

How much power is lost through the bini charger seeing as it is powering the waterpump as well?

uuhm.

had not physically checked the 998 I more or less assumed it would fit as it does fit an 850..but failed to notice that was the 2V version

I could go and hunt for a 2V head, but
darn I'll just have learn how to live with excessive 1330 power then.

Jimster do you have pics of your turbo install ?? does it not generate too much power? (what am i saying...)

as for the pictured charger setup..
hmmmm.

I did not notice the water pump pully.. good eye

Just been in the workshop sussing out the blower drive and ducting etc.

Thought I better correct my error above.

The waterpump drive is geared at the back of the Bini blower. It runs at half engine speed and in the opposite direction than the input shaft.

Could the charger mounted pump not be used for a charge cooler sandwiching it between the charger and manifold?

It could but you would need an auxilliary rad. Another complication, when you could just use an air/air intercooler.

Besides, the water pump would probably be megabucks from a BMW dealer.

I'm planning on two intercoolers and driving the alternator off the back of the blower, but it may not generate much at idle.
